Mobil dimension saw mill trouble with forward feed
« on: December 27, 2017, 06:08:26 PM »
I have an older mill and having a problem that the mill won't move forward on its own. It has new belts, might be the clutch that grabs the belt.

Welcome to the forum, Strider.  It sounds like you have a model 127. I have a 128 with hydrostatic feed and don't know anything about the 127. I think Paul-H used to have a 127. I'll give him a heads up. ;)

Strider, welcome to FF!  This is a great place with great folks.  I mainly wanted to say welcome since I know little about Mobile Dimension mills.  The only Mobile Dimension mill I have seen in operation up close is DanG’s,  its an impressive machine. 8)

Have you contacted  MD directly,  I have no personal experience with them, but from what I have heard they can be very helpful to owners of their mills.
We have some very experienced  members  with md mills, but they are not very active on the site.

I have a MD 127 that had the same problem last month, I had not sawed in quite a while.  Turned out it was the plastic variable pulley.  I sprayed a small amount or penetrating oil in the pulley and let the clutch out to slow feed and kept messing and it eventually freed up.  Hope this helps.

Nice to see you have a bullet proof MD mill.  127 is 40 years old. Ron at Md great guy to deal with, but chances its been modified.  Try your cable that engages might be slack.  That would be my first try.  I may have other options if that doesnt work.
