OK this was sent to me by DelawhereJoe.  It's a tree with 7 different leaf patterns, some very distinctly different.

Just guessing as there are several red oaks with variable leaves and some like to hybridize. Might be Quercus marilandica  [blackjack] or Q. falcata, or.....

It's usually easy to separate those two from a distance by gross characters or even from their site, leaves maybe not so much.

I have seen the lower limbs produce much differently shaped and usually larger leaves than the top limbs.

The tree is growing at the edge of the woods about 30' - 35', there are no black jack oaks that I know of in the area. Its growing around northern red, southern red pin, willow and others that I have your to identify. Yes they all came from lower branches between 6-8'.

Quercus falcata.  Southern red oak.  100% sure.  Two clues.  The rounded base with the "bell and clapper" shape of the shade leaves.  The two toned color.  Top is bright green, bottom a tawny color.

Looks like SRO to me.  Big difference what part of the tree the leave came from.  Our dendro instructor was the master of deception.
