Title: Coffee??
Post by: Magicman on December 08, 2015, 08:33:50 AM
The second cup, how much do you drink?  Black or doctored?  Mine is straight up with no sweetener or dairy.

When I worked for the man, there was the morning and afternoon coffee breaks.  Now it's my cup in the morning after breakfast and rarely any after that.  Sundays are different because I generally sip a cup in the afternoon.

Coffee and the forestry forum go together. I have a cup while I read the forum before breakfast. Another cup with breakfast. We have one of those fancy K-cup machines, I get two good cups of coffee from one of the little foil packets...

I won't start my day without it,straight off the pot no milk or sugar. It was a basic food group when I was on the road for the logging company, minimum 6-8 cups a day, but I paid for it with stomach problems. Now two in the morning and seldom any after that.

When I worked for the man(some say I was against him from the start), I would have a cup at home to get my heart started, then pick up a 20oz cup on the way to work.  I had my own coffee maker in my office and would kill 2 pots during the day.  Picked up beer on the way home.  I was a real health nut.  :D :D

Now I'm down to 3 or 4 cups in the morning and one in the afternoon.  Thinking about installing a rollup door in the spare room so I can load the beer in with the forklift.  ;)

We have a Mr. Coffee, $20 coffee maker that makes 12 cups according to whats on the pot. My cup must hold more that that.  Tammy takes some out to put in her creamer in the morning, and I drink the rest, trying not to drink any past say 2pm or so. I drink mine black. 3 scoops in the filter for the pot is the strength.  Those pots last about 6 months and they slow down. We clean it a couple times with vinegar, 6then chuck it and go in the other room and get a new one. Next time we are at Wally world, we buy another spare.

In the summer 2 cups in the morning and 1 with lunch, as it gets colder I drink it all day and usually 1 after dinner. 1/2 caff black, no more high test these days. The K cups are fun but expensive, coffee from a perc pot is the best tasting but hotter that Hades.  smiley_devil

I always (most times) have my coffee straight up, nothing added, but on rare occasions, I'll add a good helpin' of instant cocoa!

My day starts with coffee and the FF for about an hour, then I'll migrate to the kitchen and fix my eggs, bacon & toast, and have a second cup of coffee.

If I hang around the house, I'll usually have another couple of cups!

I used to drink my coffee black but I read some articles about it being hard on your stomach (can help ulcers form) and teeth (making em brown) so I add a spot of whole milk, and maple syrup in the colder months (not aunt jemimah's either :D )

2 mugs black each morning. For some reason the "official" size for coffee markings on the pot are for 6 oz cups while most mugs are 12 oz so if the pot says 8 cups you will only get 4 mugs.

I figure that back in the day, they didn't have as much coffee, so they had smaller servings.  Now in the McDonald's era where coffee is plentiful, they started making bigger mugs but the measurements are still the same.  Just a rough guess, but I can almost guarantee 1/32" accuracy.  ;D

I make mine in a SS perk on the stove. 4 cups of water, 3 tablespoons grinds. I buy a brand by a national store chain here. I don't buy some of the cheaper stuff like Maxwell, no taste to it. Add a tiny bit of sugar (maybe 1/3 of a teaspoon) and a good dose of cereal cream (10 % MF). No half and half for me (oil and sugar slosh?) I'd rather have the real stuff. :D  Anyway, 2 - 3 cups from Royal Albert fine china (tastes a lot better) in the morning with breakfast and that's it for the day. ;) Besides we have lots of china cups between mother and uncle collecting for 40 or 50 years. LOL

When I was working for the man, I had a big mug, probably 16oz.  I would drink a couple cups in the morning.  I was having trouble staying awake at work so I drank more.  I was up to 7 or 8 mugs a day and this was extra strong French Roast.  I would dose off at home if I sat down.  Turned out I had Sleep Apnea.  Got a CPAP and now I don't drink coffee anymore! :D

You wanna real buzz before you go to sleep?  Take some coffee grounds, put em in your lip like dip, but drink the spit.  It kinda gets all over the place, unless you wrap it in something like cheesecloth, but it'll wake you right up, and about an hour later you'll come down and sleep like a rock.   ;)

i have fond memories of drinking coffee with my granddad when i was a kid. i stayed with them alot growing up and it was 3 or cups with breakfast and that was it for the day. it was really strong and black.  :) after drinking the cup down to the last little bit  where the ground had settled we would pour the coffee and grounds on a biscuit. that with home cured ham and eggs made a fine breakfast ;D

I don't mean this as a put down but I don't understand those that don't drink coffee.  I drink it from the minute that I wake to when I go to bed.  One of my fondest memories is x-mas at grandmas house and trying to carry the coffee filled to the brim to the adults with out spilling any.  My wife continually yells at me for the little spots of coffee I have dripped in our house so I must have never gotten good at keeping it in the cup but it is still one of my fond memories from child hood.

I can drink coffee while I am drinking beer.  I don't understand flavored coffee and drink it black.  I like it with a little milk in it but am too lazy so drink black.  I get really bad headaches if I get busy enough that I forget to drink some for too long.

I remember as a kid, staying up all night around a camp fire so we could check limb lines and trot lines every 2 hours.  Lots of coffee.

I hardly ever drink water, soda.  I drink milk with food and then coffee all day.  I still love some that don't even drink it but don't pretend to understand them.
Cheers
gww

The Cadenhead boys must like their coffee.  Tom drank black coffee from the time he got up until the time he went to bed. You rarely saw Tom without a mug of coffee in his hand or nearby.  He drank so much coffee that his wife, Gayle, bought him a two pot coffee maker.  Tom was buried with a coffee mug in his hand.  I have and still use Tom's insulated coffee mug he used at his mill. I use it in my truck. Now, this boy fixes 12 cups of coffee each morning. My wife, Donna, will drink 1 or 2 mugs and I'll drink the rest, which equates to about 8 to 10 cups.  I rarely drink anymore coffee unless I go to a cafĂ© to meet a friend. Then it'll be another 5 or 6 mugs.

Now, most of you boys say you dring "x" number of cups of coffee. I'll bet that every one of you drink your coffee from a mug, which holds about 2 cups of coffee.  A cup is 8 ounces and I don't think I know  anyone that drinks only 8 ounces of coffee in the morning.  :o

My coffee grinder has duck tape on it.. but I've had it for over 15 years.  Use to drink all day long.  Dark roast.. strong enough to walk on.. almost sweet.. CoffeeMate.  I make mud.

Try this sometime..  take paper filter w/ coffee and use metal twisty tie to make teabag.. put in the pot until boiling.. I let it boil some.. use spoon to squish on it to make coffee stronger.  Makes a very rich tasting coffee.. makes house smell like coffee too.

Now I want some coffee..

I used to a drink 2 24oz cups with half and half for color from the local gas station everyday.  They've got a good Bunn coffee machine and they keep it up.  I still drink coffee if we have breakfast out but that's it..  White Monster Zero Ultras have replaced other forms of caffeine for me.  I probably drink more of them than I should.  They are refreshing ;D  No caffeine after 5PM these days.  I used to be able drink a pot of coffee and go to bed.  Not anymore.

Add one more thing to the very short list of documented things that thecfarm is willing to consume!  ;D

I love coffee, but I got spoiled by local coffee shop here in the area. They roast their own and sell wholesale to high ends stores and restaurants. They're way better than *$  [some of you will get that] and hardly more expensive. So they get me hooked on these highly customized special roasts of special beans from Kenya and Ethiopia especially. When it's their stuff, I drink it black and stiff as gumbo and about as hot as it is outside Magicman's house in July, but not much hotter than that. Otherwise I burn my fragile tongue.  :-\

But at work, they have free coffee burned dirt, and that I have to have creamer in to make it taste less miserable. Then I typically have 2-3 of those cups per 8-hour shift.

If any of you drop into town around here, give me a heads up you're coming, and I will take you to my favorite coffee shop, where they roast their own and brew it one cup at a time. I love those guys, they're a successful local business I've been a loyal customer and supporter of since their very beginnings. And-- they import, roast, and brew VERY good coffee.

I like what we call cofflate just every now and then though. Its hot chocolate made with coffee instead of milk or water.
We like coffee so much around here that I decided to attempt a different dessert with coffee... COFFEE PIE!!! It may sound weird but it is really really good. I made the creamer just vanilla milk and a bit of cinamon, mixed it with the coffee,  thickened it with corn starch and poured it in the crust. Coffee jelly in a pie crust may sound weird but it is definiteley worth a try. ;D

During winter, fill the wood stove season I usually up around 4am & get a cup or 2 of Folger's from the day before. Then The Bride makes a  fresh pot & may have another cup & fill the to go cup. Buddy of mine say Arco is the best he's ever had & that's all he'll drink. Got to try some of that some day👍😎

Once in a while, especially during the Winter, I'll pour a cup of coffee (I normally drink it black) and add a heaping spoonful of instant hot chocolate.   smiley_thumbsup

cold weather 6 to 8 cups a day, warm weather 2 to 3 and I make up for the caffeine deficiency with Pepsi. Now a days I roast my own small batches and grind a cup at a time, light roast from free trade beans I get from a good friend who does missionary work in S America.

I started drinking coffee at about 5 years old, my grandma would make me milk coffee from hot milk, nescafe instant and a teaspoon of sugar, dipping day old homemade bread until it was gone was breakfast before school. I think the kick helped me deal with the nuns at school. I can think of lots of things I'd give up before I'd give up coffee. Caffeine, cholesterol and calories, the three basic food groups.

Couple of months ago I discovered a local shop that imports Jamaican Blue Mountain. They roast it fresh every day, then ship it out. (primarily an e-commerce thing). They even have single estate beans, which is similar to single-malt scotch, and priced about the same. I'm still working my way through the entire selection before I decide which I like best. Might have to go back and try some I've already tried just to refresh my taste buds. I figure I'm still young, I've got time.

Not as much fun as some other Jamaican imports I experimented with in my younger days, but the statute of limitations has passed on that.

However, after my coffee, I read novels like Arkady Renko mysteries, Girl with a Pearl Earing, Lonesome Dove and a ton of others. My MIL was a coffee fanatic and could instantly tell the difference between coffee brands.  She preferred to brew a pot, let it cool, and then keep it in the frig.  She would then pour a cup and microwave it.  She claimed that it was much better.

Title: Re: Coffee??

Just a pinch....no more.  Either way, before brewing or after does not matter, but measuring is easier by the cup after brewing.  There is a chemical basis for this practice. The Na+ ion (salt) diminishes bitterness by interfering with the transduction mechanism of that taste. The effect occurs below the level at which the salty taste would be registered.

We put a pinch in the grounds as that is all a whole pot needs here. We have learned that this is especially important if you have chlorinated water (city water) piped to your home or if your well water is of lower quality. That pinch of salt corrects a lot of flavour problems and leaves the coffee to be enjoyed.

At least a pot a day, less what the wife drinks with her half and half.  Fresh ground dark roast beans straight up, no cream or sugar.  Pinch of salt in the grounds when brewing if I make it, maybe or maybe not if the wife makes it.  The salt helps cut the bitterness, old man I used to work with taught me that trick. I'll drink it off and on all day and evening.  So far, never a problem with the caffeine keeping me up at night.

In Reply #15, I showed the coffee maker that I have been using that uses a coffee packet which cost 26 cents, but the maker is not easily adaptable to use loose coffee.

I recently saw this coffee maker and decided to give it a try because it uses loose coffee.

This is also a single cup maker and cost $20.  It is very small and does not take up much counter space.

It also has a permanent filter which works well and cleans easily.

I am using my recently "inherited" Yeti cup because there ain't no way I would pay that much for a coffee cup, but it is crazy how long it will keep the coffee hot.

I used my wife's knock off version of a Yeti while she was gone one weekend, DanG thing kept my tea cold all afternoon in a 110 degree tractor cab, went to Bomgaars for twine the next day and spent 30 some odd dollars on my own.  Asked wife about hers when she got back, yep it was not a Yeti it was a 10 dollar Walmart special  :-\.  Then someone at the salebarn I work at decided they needed my Yetti worse than me  >:(.  But they do work great.

I did a bit of unofficial testing/timing.  Using a Tervis cup, which is plastic and double insulated, the last sip after 15 minutes was cold.  Using the Yeti cup, the last sip after 45 minutes was still hot.

MM, can't believe the pages this has run.  Here's mine.  Mr. Coffee, $16.88 one button on/off Wmart.  12 cup.  Morning after, enough to make a cup of left over, 2 minutes in the microwave.  In the mean time, pots in the sink filling.  Six scoops of Value Size Great Value Classic Roast, Medium Rich & Smooth.  380 Cup size/3 lbs.  My cup I ran in the microwave hold just under 2 cups.  I add the yellow pretend sweetener from Wmart. w/Wmart powder creamer.  Yes I use throw away filters.  Takes about 10 minutes to run the 12"cups claimed of brew.  By my measure of almost 2 cups, 6 real cups or mugs of coffee to the beaker.  Though not included filter/sweetner/creamer close to .13 cents for almost two cups of my style flavored coffee.  I usually drink three cups, wife two which leaves enough for the morning rebrew in the microwave while I prep the next pot. Eat your heart out Ripoffbucks. :D :D :D

It's a drip coffee pot like a Mr. Coffee, and as simple as she can find. 12 "cups" (I'm pretty sure they mean 6 oz. cups, not standard) with 4 level scoops (don't know the standard there) of Folgers or Maxwell House or whatever she buys.

I get 1 mug per pot; she gets the rest simply because she's faster than I am. Neither of us can stand scorched coffee, so it goes into two insulated carafes (sp?) as soon as the pot's done. Whoever gets the last mug, starts another pot. My mug is an insulated thing that my son got for me. It keeps the coffee hot enough to drink for at least as long as it takes me to drink it. She has an identical mug but rarely uses it -- prefers ceramic. Black; no doctoring.

About 24 oz for me before breakfast; about 1 qt for her. Neither of us without a cup for long throughout the day and night. Probably 5 - 8 pots per day.

:o I would be like Elmer Fudd on helium if I drank that much coffee. When I was on the road a lot it was a basic food group but I had to back off due to health issues, it accelerated a congenital tremor. The office girls bought me 20 pounds of Costa Rican beans so that's all I've been drinking. Normally I buy Folgers country roast.
Weekdays and Saturday I use a old style percolator. A full basket of grind and 10 cups of water. 1/2 and 1/2 with a bit of raw sugar.
Sunday's I use a 32 oz press and let the grind steep for 10 minutes.

Percolators are where it's at and I prefer a stove top one over electric and campfire over that. Having a double expresso right now in the biz lounge on my way home. This is kinda new for me. Normally I would be swigging whiskey. Two days ago I was heading home and doing just that. At some point and time while heading toward the plane I toppled over and smacked my head. Ended up in the hospital and now I am not so proudly sporting a black eye and several stitches. I've come to the conclusion that I have a problem and it's time for a change. Coffee it is for me. There, I've said it. First step.

I thought this little ditty was cute regarding coffee:   As I sat down one evening,
   was in a small cafĂ©
A forty year old waitress to me
   these words did say

I see you that you are a logger
and not just a common bum
'Cause nobody but a logger
stirs his coffee with his thumb

My lover he was a logger,
   there's none like him today
Well if you'd pour whiskey on it
well he'd eat a bale of hay

He never used a razor
   to shave his horny hide
He'd just drive them in with a hammer
then he'd bite them off inside

My lover he came to see me
   was on a freezing day
He held me in a fond embrace
   that broke three vertebraes

Well he kissed me when we parted
so hard that he broke my jaw
And I could not speak to tell him
   he forgot his mackinaw

I saw my lover leaving
   sauntering through the snow
Well going grimly homeward
   at forty eight below

Wll the weather tried to freeze him
   it tried its level best
At a hundred degrees below zero
why, he buttoned up his vest

It froze clean through to China
and it froze to the stars above
And at a thousand degrees below zero
   it froze my logger love

And so I lost my lover
and to this cafĂ© I come
And here I wait till someone
stirs his coffee with his thumb

QuoteMr Coffee at the present but I have 4 Bunns needing seals in the garage plus a commercial Bunn .

I am still using a bun.  I have patched a few of them.  My uncle called them up and talked/griped at them cause you can't even buy that little washer that goes bad on all buns and so now he refuses to own one cause he says they know about the problim and it happens on all buns but they won't even make the part av availible.  I have patched a few of them with short term fixes.  I keep it on 24 hours a day.

Magic, I can not speak for anyone else but no, I do not have revolving doors on my bathroom but I do have a pretty good patch of dead grass and when the wether is just right it pays to be standing up wind from it ;).

I've cut back on my coffee usage, I make a 6 cup (half a typical coffee pot) but still use the same amount of coffee. I have a cup or 2 in the morning and call it good. I'm still on the Folgers black silk, columbian, or french roast. As always with a little milk or cream. I switch every time I buy it.
Today I tried some Yuban that a relative had brewed up today, with a splash of fresh Dexter milk it was pretty good. Nice for a change I guess. :)

The excessive coffee caught up with me so switched to tea...whoa, the pain.  :-X So, try to only have coffee 1 or 2 days a week.

The Mrs. has tried to complicate coffee. It's a simple thing with zen-like qualities when kept at a basic level. First it was a K-cup machine--that ended up clogged, giving me 1/3 cup. She cleaned it, etc. blah blah--ended up sailing off the 2nd story balcony.

The next was a machine that "will do it all...". Place the beans in it with water and it will auto grind, shoot the coffee into a filterless contraption. Ended up clogging the grindings and overflowing and/or a pot full of grounds. It too sailed off the deck one early morning.  (can I even explain how much joy this gave me!)?  :D

Simplicity is where it's at for me in the matter: ground coffee, put scoops into personal size french press, let sit a few minutes, push handle down, pour--great taste, no BS, works EVERY single time. First experienced this at Egg Restaurant in Brooklyn...simple kinda place with great/wholesome food!

A french press is without a doubt my favorite, my 1 qt (single serving  ;D) press is a good friend indeed.  Also agree on ditching all the fancy machines.  Now the next trick is getting light roasted African beans into it.   I've got a good supplier of Kenyan AA and for the price it is a *DanG good wake up.  I have to stop about noon though and it is hard to find good decaf.

Counter Culture (for all you coffee snobs) is the best I've had but at $18 for 12 oz it is an expensive cup.  I am not a fan of Columbian or Brazil but the CC East African coffees are the best ever and after 25 years of being a coffee fanatic I think I'm confident with that statement.

DanGdest thing, the caffeine does something with the medicine I take, and I don't feel right. Later in the day I can swing a hi-test or two

K-cup coffee maker...When it gets stingy and makes 1/2 cup or less per brew, and the recommended de-scaling does no good,  here's a gotcha...pull the removable filter from the water container..Underneath is a round knob with 3 stainless phillips head screws. remove them and pull out the plastic knob. Inside that is a fine wire mesh filter, can't clean it without removing the assembly. Mine was badly clogged. Made a world of difference.

Tea for me with breakfast just  touch of sugar (our tea makes most folks coffee look weak) then black coffee at the office. Two 20 oz mugs a day.

Years ago, I read a report that people who drink 8 or more cups of coffee a day have a longer, stronger, and more satisfying sex life than other groups of coffee drinkers. I can attest to the validity of the claim.  :)

First step.

I have not yet lain my demon down but have somewhat come to terms with it. I have a glass of wine with my meal when I fly but not drinking to drunken stupidity any more.  This said as I sit in the airport having coffee.

Coffee and snus are two of my favorite things. I drink a minimum of a slightly overstuffed 10cup pot/day, and sometimes two pots, especially in the winter. Daily brew is Wegmans brand Traditional. It tastes kind of like a "donut shop" light. It has that flavor, but a little less so. I also keep some whole bean darker roasts around when I want something a little more special.

I used an electroperc for years, but it quit heating right. I thought I had some backups from the thrift shop, but they don't heat right either. They were tested before purchase, but apparently they can heat, but not heat enough. One day, I'll take one apart and see if there's something I can do with it. New units seem to poor reviews. They're from China, and aren't made like they used to be. Currently using a Bunn I got in the early 90s. It's alright. Speedy, but the extraction is a bit sub par. If I want the *best* coffee, I use one of my French presses. When the Bunn finally dies, I'll go to using a manual pourover, and my French presses. If I get in the right mood, I /may/ buy a stovetop perc, but I have so many other manual devices, it's hard to justify buying more stuff. I'm kind of tired of electric things. Hard to beat the simplicity of fire. It always works.

I'll drink it black, but I prefer 3-4 sugar packs and 1-2 creamer cups depending on the size of my mug, or atleast with the cruddy coffee they have in the Caf here on campus. If I'm making it, I use Black Rifle grounds, and do a splash of real cream and 2 teaspoons of sugar, all into my Star Wars mug.

Title: Re: Coffee??
Post by: lxskllr on November 09, 2018, 07:02:30 PM
Nah, I drink it cold. Reheating ruins the taste, and I enjoy it cold. During the great recession, money was a real problem for me, so I experimented with various cheap coffees trying to find something decent to save a few bucks. One of the ones I tried was walmart dark roast. That was a dud hot, but it really woke up when it got cold. I have no explanation for what was going on. I didn't like it much at all when fresh, but if I let it sit in the pot til it was cold, I actually enjoyed it. I've thought about revisiting that to see if my opinion's the same. I'd buy it again just to drink cold.

Btw, I settled on aldi coffee as my daily brew. It wasn't great; probably mediocre diner quality, but it was the best cheap stuff I found, and tolerable. Glad I don't have to drink it anymore though  :^D

MM little embarassed to have a yeti there lol lol hey if its good and it works who gives a turkey..snap-on sells tools for crazy money but they work well, so many people buy em, same with wm.  Point is you pay for quality and I ain't gonna judge a man on a coffee mug come to think of it I'd have never known it was soo expensive unless it was brought to me attention.

I'm trying the salt in the grounds this morning.  Hoping that'll do it.
A recent post by MM brought me to this thread which I had not seen before. Going through the thread brought me to the above post, that post led me to the youtube video, which led me to THIS video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6OeFBmfsEw (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6OeFBmfsEw) This one is with Pete Seeger and Fred Hellerman. Pete lived across the river from here and I saw him often. The last time I saw him, just a few months before he passed he was wearing that same shirt and it was a magical day and performance. I never knew the Weaver's did this song. ANyway, I took a pretty convoluted route to get there, but this brought a little tear to my eye.
OH, and to keep on topic. I love my coffee, 'no coffee, no workie' I always say. I take mine black, there is no need to stir it.

I still rely on my old stainless. I did try a large Dr. Who mug I got for Christmas. It doesn't do the trick,  gets cold and doesn't taste as good as the China I have used for years. You might think of me as a mug snob, but not really. It just hasn't the flavor. The Dr. Who mug got placed quietly into the back of the cupboards. ;)

I put fancy coffee in the same class as so called "craft" beer .You either like coffee or you don't .same with beer .Does coffee taste better with cute little animals drawn on the surface with heavy cream ? Is the beer so bad you have to drop a wedge of lemon or lime in it to kill the taste ? Good grief ---mumble grumble .
I got used to navy "mid watch" coffee you could float a nail in . ;D

i'm with you Al, pretty much. At least on the coffee. I grew up in a house where my Dad said 'people who drink instant coffee would....' Well never mind, this is a family group, I nearly forgot. ;D My Dad was WW II Coast Guard serving in the Philippines. He enevr put anything in his coffee picked up his habits when I was a kid and never added anything and I dislike any flavored coffees, instant, and decaf to an extreme degree. :D That's just what works for me. As for cups, I lucked into a half case of heavy china coffee mugs at some sort of yard sale. They were just like the mugs the navy used I think.Oh BOY, I loved those cups, held the heat, nice and heavy, didn't spill. Over a period of 45 years they all bit the dust, one at a time. I miss them still. >:(
Now as for beer, we could talk about that a little bit. I like a very well brewed craft beer and we can discuss what is good and what isn't on that score. ;D

I prefer Maxwell House original medium roast.  I heap the measure a bit and use the coffee maker's stronger setting.

well I like a dark roast so it is a little bitter.  I never added anything until in Albany, NY.  Kind of like Sweet tea in the south, people just started adding cream if you wanted it "regular"  I like 1/2 & 1/2 in it but can drink without it.  My grandpa would get a cup of brewed coffee in the "percolator" then add a heaping teaspoon of Folgers crystals.  My dad added two heaping teaspoons of sugar.  they were both truck drivers for quite a while.  I have acquired a taste for double IPA beer so quite bitter.  We brew Pliny the Elder beer.  While at Philmont, we drank the instant little Starbucks packs of dark roast.  drip made does not have the flavor.  we tried a percolator for a while.  we finally gave in and got a Keurig so we could all have what we wanted!  My mom would put a little coffee along with mapleen in the frosting of cinnamon rolls.  it gave a little flavor, helped to melt butter and powdered sugar.  you would get a coffee ground in the frosting now and then.  all good memories.

When I was in school I drank it by the pot full, the first few years of work as well. Then it started to bother my stomach,  I gave it up and switched to tea, my stomach is better off and I have cut my caffeine intake at least some. I still drink a smidgen of coffee at the office or steal a couple sips from wife's cup, but I know if I over do it. To this day the best coffee is black and made over a fire with my old enamel pot, served with bacon grease fried brook trout and eggs. 8)

At age 76 I began my coffee adventures about 4-5 years ago. I grew up around coffee addicts and it was always mainstream Folgers, Maxwell House etc for them, never me. Smelled good but tasted too bitter.
My wife likes flavored coffee and I followed her, but my version is what my BIL calls "sissy coffee", or the Waffle House lady called "do you want some more of that concoction"! meaning my coffee with lots of cream and cocoa added. I put ~ 3/4 teaspoon of Swiss Miss style milk chocolate in the 2 tablespoons of 1/2 & 1/2 cream, heat that very hot then using an AreoLatte whip I get it well mixed from the microwave then add coffee. I prefer stronger coffees given my dilution-Seattles Best Hazlenut is a favorite as is Krogers Hazelnut which is milder than the SB stuff.
At a Starbucks, a place I never go besides the fact there are zero of them near me, I see they have coffee similar to mine but too pricey for a tightwad. The college kids (on student loans they want me to pay back) are always there though, life is good huh?
We go for the beans when we can but the newer easy make coffees have stolen shelf space from bean & ground bag coffees.
My sons all drink dark roast such as Peet's or other dark beans, also using a French Press to extract their goodies. We are stuck on Mr Coffee  though they get the royal treatment when Mommas making their coffee.
There are some interesting stories to be learned about mainstream coffees and their bean sources. A guy I grew up with made his career after we worked together in grocery stores in college with Folgers.
BTW, many coffees are dying around the world as warming raises temps at particular elevations they grow in.

Go to Tim Hortons, it's all right in theirs when it comes to cocoa and your choice cream and sugar. You come out of that place or it's subsidiaries in convenience stores and your clothes smell of chocolatized coffee. :D  I never buy their coffee, but often go in to the store to pay for gas and it's on your clothes afterword like burdocks. ;)

I never drank coffee until I met my wife.  I tried it a few times in the Army but it seemed that whoever made it did their worst so they wouldn't have to make it again.  Starbucks always tasted like cigarette ashes to me so I always avoided it.  My wife and I originally worked in the same company so she would invite me for a cup of coffee before work.  Not wanting to pass up the opportunity to be with her I would quietly choke down a cup.  Eventually coffee became an acquired taste but I got bored of the same old Folgers and started trying "designer" coffees.  I even got her to try the different coffees.  I got hooked on ice coffee while working in Chicago.

Currently, our standard coffee is Dunkin' Donuts original but I rotate between Swiss Chocolate Almond, Chocolate Chipotle, Texas Pecan, and a Texas blend which has an orange flavor to it called Rio Grande Especial.  She likes doberman style coffee so she drinks Black Rifle Coffee MO.

2 - 40 ounce mugs a day keeps me working non-stop 10 to 12 hours a day.

Our oldest a former Marine, drinks the Black Rifle coffee and he and his brothers also drink Peet's-Major Dickinson.
I forgot to mention, I top my coffee with a dollop of whipped cream!
Nah, I'm not gonna get into judging people by their coffee choices...
Currently we are grinding Fresh Market's- Butterscotch Carmel Delight? it was half price on Friday before Christmas along with others. Their coffee is sold by the pound, mostly as beans so not so pricey when compared to tiny cans and bags of grocery coffee.
I tried and liked a new Walmart coffee, not flavored but adjusted for taste by combing various bean blends-look for a black bag- I bought the only one that comes in the bean but there are 4-5 others.

Despite my time drinking lots of horrible coffee in the Navy, I've come to appreciate good, fresh coffee - and LOTS of it. Probably 4-6 cups/day. I prefer to buy beans and grind and day or two's worth at a time. Keep grinds in an air-tight container and the beans in the freezer. Funny thing is, I only enjoy coffee while relaxing or at a desk. I don't bring it to the woods with me - only water-diluted juice.

A combination of the sailor talk and Al wanting to boil some eggs brought back a memory. Down in the engine room of an old "tin can" destroyer patrolling the coast of Nam on occasions on the mid-watch (midnight to 4AM) we would pirate a half dozen eggs and put them in the big percolator coffee pot and they would cook while the coffee perked.

That navy coffee came in a great big tin thing .Must have had 20 pounds of coffee .Good trading stock .I was pretty good as a comshaw artist .

We have about 5 different kinds of coffee in the house at the moment.  A couple fresh roasted bags, one locally and one based out of New York somewhere, as well as some Maxwell House and some Folgers quick bags.

Most days I weigh out my coffee, grind it with a hand grinder, and run through my aeropress at 201degrees for 2:30minutes.  Top the cup off with hot water and drink black.  Come out so smooth you don't need anything else in it.

Some days I weigh, grind, and use my coffee maker carafe, and the cone filter basket to do a manual pour over coffee at either 201 or 177.. depending on my mood.

Other days when I'm feeling lazy, Maxwell House treats me right... Made in the coffee maker.  Bodum from Target.

@Old Greenhorn (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=42103)  Oh man its totally worth it.   There is a massive difference in the taste between preground packaged coffee and fresh roasted beans.  Also the water temp & brew time plays a huge part in what chemicals IE flavors are drawn out and left behind.   I've had so many people that come over and have coffee say wow, that is really smooth.  Or that theyve never tasted black coffee like that or even previously liked black coffee.

Of course here is a recipe per see of what I sometimes make and its mouth watering..

I grind beans for a full large cup of coffee but then I brew it with only 1/3rd or less of the water.  So I get a Faux espresso-ish type concetrate.  Then I use "Coffeemate" brand french vanilla and heat it up to boiling.  This is very important as it changes into this amazingly marshmallow flavor.  Then I whisk the hell out of it to make it really foamy and increase in volume by 2-3times.  Pour than into the coffee and its virtually heaven in a mug..  absolutely amazing.

Also one of my favorite ways to make coffee is cold brewing.   1:1 Cups/oz of water to ground coffee (can really use any kind for this) 8cups of water and 8 ounces of ground coffee.  I use a large pickle jar with a lid.  Mix and set in the fridge for 12-24hrs.  I do an initial strain with a mesh sieve and then filter through coffee filters.  Youre left with a concentrate that taste incredible in 1:4 coffee to water up to 1:2 ratios.  Add a little whipping cream and vanilla- wowza.   Cold brew is very different than hot brewing.  You get a distinct flavor that you never have had in a hot brewed coffee, even if the coffee was then chilled.

I know it all sounds like a lot, but I encourage anyone who is interested in a new coffee experience to give these a shot and feel free to contact me if you need advise or assistance!!

Ps:  I generally weigh out 12-18 grams of beans for an 8oz cup of water.  I prefer strictly 201degree water for 12-15grams coffee, and 177 for 18grams of coffee for that 8oz of water.  Those water temps were founded by my own pallet to what I specifically liked.

OK, I did it.  I am a one cup a day coffee drinker so I use a single cup maker.

I liked this coffee maker that I showed back in Reply #210, but there was a problem.  It uses a mesh brew basket rather then a paper filter and I would occasionally spatter coffee grounds inside (and outside) of PatD's kitchen cabinet.  If/when I saw it, I would clean it up but.....

So what was the remedy?  I have avoided the K-Cup maker because of the extra expense but more especially the size.  Since I am allotted a limited amount of space, it had to be small.

So enter the K-Mini-Plus.  It's only 4½" wide, 11½" deep, and 12" high.

And it will allow my travel mug to fit under the spout.  I did some Google searching and had it delivered for under $75.  It came yesterday and I am sipping my first cup as I type.  :)

So now my coffee expense will increase from $15 per month to $30. food6

I did a bit of unofficial testing/timing.  Using a Tervis cup, which is plastic and double insulated, the last sip after 15 minutes was cold.  Using the Yeti cup, the last sip after 45 minutes was still hot.
Been using a Thermos travel mug. It never cooled off after an hour. I started using it without the cover because it was too hot on the lips. Can only take so much burnt lip. :D

Still like the fine china for flavour, hands down.

I picked up a case of surplus coffee cups from the navy at some sale somewhere when I was in my 20's. No coffee ever tasted better than from those cups. They were mugs really used in the general galley mess I think. They were tough too, but didn't hold up well when dropped on concrete. They were marked 'china' on the bottom with the USN logo. I may have one left and if I do, it remains protected.

I have gotten a pleasant but unexpected coffee surprise!

Since I am the only coffee drinker here, I generally bought the 11.5 oz can of coffee so that it would be fresher but even then, by the time I reached the bottom of the can the smell was mostly gone.  Grinding my own beans probably would have somewhat cured that but that wasn't gonna happen.

Back in 2002 when I was a manufacturing consultant, I had the privilege to work on a few projects at the Jacksonville, Florida Maxwell House coffee plant (General Foods plant owned by Kraft Foods).

I was very impressed with their operations and quality control. And it made the Jacksonville area smell so good...

I loved to watch their coffee testers, slurp and spit.  :D

one of our nurse's husbands bought a big bunch of chicory years back.  so much that she brought baggies of the stuff to give away in the ED.  I would mix it with regular coffee.  it added some flavor and in a sense, made drinkable lower caffeine brew.  we now do the K cups.  we used to only drink 1/3 to 1/2 of the pot anyway.  and now my wife and I can pick what we want.

I am genuinely sorry for what I did.  PatD said that just because I had a coupon didn't mean that I had to use it.  Well in that light, just because I bought it doesn't mean that I have to drink it.

I have never tried drinking "dish water" but I poured that cup of Green Mountain down the sink.  :-X  I am drinking a cup of the Dunkin' now but the rest of the box will be kept in reserve just in case I ever run out of Maxwell House or Community.

I normally drink one cup a day and at least it can be something that I enjoy.  No more experimenting.  ::)

MM, sorry you had a bad coffee experience with Green Mountain. :(
I really like it.  I usually rotate between Green Mountain, Community, and Maxwell House. It depends on what's on sale or a BOGO.  I don't care for Dunkin or McD's and usually go with the medium roast or breakfast blends.

Once at one of my client's sites, someone thought it would be funny to put salt in the sugar container. :(
So I have dumped a few cups down the drain over the years as well...

Floated the Dearborne river in Montana (https://www.bigskyfishing.com/River-Fishing/central-rivers/dearborn-river.php) back in '66 with some friends. Fished until dark, then pulled off into a place that had a decent place to pitch a tent. One of my buddies went down to the creek and filled up the big old porcelain coffee pot that our Montana resident rancher, Skip had brought along to show us how to make cowboy coffee. Skip threw in a hand full of grounds and put the pot on the fire to boil for a while, then cracked an egg and slid it down inside the pot. He said the raw egg would settle to the bottom and as it cooked it would capture the grounds to keep them out of the brew. Tasted OK, but a little gritty. Next morning at first light we stoked up the fire to warm up the coffee. Skip flipped the lid and looked into the pot to see how much was left and got a funny look on his face. He reached into the pot and pulled out a green slimy mess that included a chunk of dried up cow patty....seems that when our buddy went down to the river for water in the dark, he never actually made it to the river. Instead he filled the pot from a backwater slough used as a watering hole by the rancher's cattle. I'll never forget that lesson in making cowboy coffee!

I have two cups in the morning.

Until I found a local guy who roasts beans himself, I had to put both sugar and milk. But with these custom roasted beans, the coffee is very smooth and no bitterness so no sugar or milk. He offers several kinds named after the country the beans grew. "Peru" is my preferred choice.

Whenever counter culture roasters (durham NC) get bags of sundried tanzanian, kenyan, or ethiopian peaberry...well it is amazing stuff.  Just like drinking fruit.  Right now the east african varieties are very slim.

I buy on the sales and load up, the price will fall $6 a can to around $10, then I scoop a bunch of them. The sale is usually once a year. Lots of coffee here on the shelves, well last week anyway. I only go for groceries every 2 weeks in winter. Last time I went for groceries it was $300 worth. But a lot of that money was spent on items that does me for months. ;D

The big chains have jacked jam prices to $8, local village has same for $5.50. Wouldn't pay more than that, sugar is real cheap and that is a big part of jam and jelly. I'm making my own rasp. jam next summer, I'm going to have a bumper crop unless we are in drought. Made some grape jelly this week.

I haven't priced a "pound" of coffee so I don't know how K-Cups compare but I suspect that they are much more expensive than loose coffee.  I emphasized pound because I don't know if a full pound is even available as such.  Pound cans sorta morphed into 10-11 oz.

The 100 ea. box of K-Cups that I bought was $32 and was 1lb 15oz so round figures it was $17 for an actual pound.  Considering that that (Tom) is a ~three month's supply I felt OK with ordering another 100.

It was an eBay order but it was delivered in a Sam's Club box and sealed with Sam's Club tape.

I'm saving a can or two for storage as I don't know how they reseal or if they do. I hate idiotic changes, especially since now you need 3 materials to make a can instead one 2.  :D

Coffee doesn't bother me stomach wise, but I have two cups in the morning and nothing the rest of the day. I only use about 1/4 tsp sugar and a drop of milk.

@Al_Smith (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=2054) That is too funny. :D I can just picture it. I drink two mugs black and unsweetened after breakfast and that is generally it for the day. Grandfather would have been 3 years older than Roy. What a hoot.

Another reason that I only drink one cup of coffee per day is...

That using the Yeti cup, it takes an hour for it to cool enough to sip.  If I remove the lid it will cool much quicker.

When I am sawing I use a different cup

and sip while driving, usually finishing it while getting the sawmill ready to saw and talking with the customer.

There must be a zillion ways to extract the coffee from the beans .Here's the two in use in my home .Mr Coffee and Keurig "office max ". When I wore a younger mans clothes and at that time the bell bottom blues of the US Navy I met probably the most beautiful woman in the world in Spain .Nothing  but just because she took a liking to me that she showed me Torremolinos Spain the average tourist doesn't get to see .One place was Spanish coffee they used steam to extract and you could float a nail in it .It was served with warm cream and brown sugar and believe you me it required it .It wasn't bad once to tamed it down .As for Maria I've often wondered  how she made out in life .Not only drop dead gorgeous

I drink a strong pot every morning(14 Tbsp per 10 cup pot) very coarsely ground medium roast Columbian coffee. Yes I am a coffee snob. If I can't make mine, I will drink Tim Horton's but never Dunkin Donuts(absolute swill).

I'm relatively sensitive to the caffeine but I've figured out my limit. I like a Kroger brand dark roast and I make it with an electric kettle and a pour through filter. I use about a third cup (measuring cup) to make my 2 mugs of black coffee in the morning. I've got it down now, I start the kettle heating up, add a couple ice cubes to my mug so I can drink it quickly, add the grounds to the pour through filter, the kettle usually gives me enough time to hold on to the kitchen sink and stretch a little, then pour the water in. My mug is likely 16+ ounces. I then go out to the front porch to look at nature, pray, smoke a cigarette and drink my coffee. I come inside, pour my 2nd cup and take my daily trip to the lew. Finish up in there and come out for my 2nd cup, this time go out and look at nature on the back porch, check the weather, smoke another cigarette and it's then off to get ready for work. Any more coffee and I start getting very jittery and angry about it. On the weekends I Irish my 2nd cups up a bit.

I've had Keuregs (don't like all the k-cups), and normal Mr. Coffee types (crazy hard water made me wait too long for the coffee to brew and I didn't trust putting it on a timer since I'd come in to overflows and leaks fairly frequently), I've got a French Press, how do you guys clean it? Now I've been using the pour through filter and it's fast and strong enough.

I want my coffee as strong as it can be.

Really the purpose of me writing all this was to ask how you guys clean your french press? Do you end up dumping a lot of grounds and water in the trash? How do you clean the filter part?

It is like making cowboy coffee, just throw the grounds in hot water, but then a filter the size of the cylinder container goes in from the top and is pushed to the bottom, getting all the grounds to the bottom.

Ha, I was including a different link but doc beat me to it!

They make a tasty coffee but I already dislike rinsing my pour through filter off in the sink, even after I've pounded it against the trash can to knock out as much grinds as I can. I feel like it can't be avoided with the french press as there is a ton of different stuff for the grounds to get caught on.

From more than one plumber I've been told not to put grounds down the sink if you are on a septic field, its a good way to plug things up.

Apparently the new coffee maker has a learning curve. I'm not really much of a student before I've had my coffee, After 3 overflowing pithing on its hotplate coffeemaker baptisms its little digital brain must have finally realized it was on thin ice and produced a cup of tolerable coffee. I'll let my instruction reading better half set the thing tonight so that it is finished before I get up.

One of our more creative mornings, we realized we had beans and no grinder. We had a hammer and several plastic bags. I went at it hammer and tong while she got water and a filter worked out and we had our morning cuppa joe  :)

Yup, Don, I've heard the same and I'm on septic, that's why I worry about using a French press but I don't want to rinse it off into the trash can either. Maybe I just need an old coffee can sitting around that I can rinse into then let the water evaporate or dump it later.

The amount of grounds I rinse off the pour through filter is enough to make me nervous and it's very little, like dust.

If you are really in a quandary as to what to do with those old grounds, you can use them to cultivate Oyster Mushrooms, it's quite easy. Here's a LINK (https://coffeeaffection.com/growing-mushrooms-in-coffee-grounds/). You can have a nice little crop in about 20 days. There's a group 2 towns south of us that teaches mushroom cultivation and they go around to the restaurants in their town and collect the grounds to use in their classes. They supply a collection bucket and pick up and replace buckets weekly. They also collect and use corrugated cardboard for the same thing.
Mushrooms are decomposers, that's what they do, and they can do it it just about anything, including fuel oil.

My problem isn't the grounds and what to do with them it's getting the grounds off the french press. All those little coils and screens hold on to the grounds regardless of how hard I bash the thing into the side of the trash can (Or compost bucket). It's takes rinsing the thing off to get it clean, but then the grounds go down the sink, into the septic tank... I guess I just need a bucket of water that I can use only for that.

French press, yeah. I actually have one, who'd have thought? :D
But mine is an added feature on my jet boil stove (as optional equipment). I use my jet boil for long hunts and backpacking trips and it's great. It is a fast way to make a good cup of coffee, but I don't use one around the house. I need about 10 good cups a day so I never bring a knife to a gunfight, so to speak. So we have a 12 cup Faber ware pot set on a timer for 4:45.
As far as cleaning the french press goes, I throw the bulk of the grounds in the bushes and dip the strainer in the stream and shake it around. Good to go for the next time. :D This probably doesn't help you out much Austin, sorry. But never let it be said that I didn't do the least I could do. ;D
Title: Re: Coffee??

Haha! My stream is dry right now, I can't dip it in there, not to mention who knows what's rolling into it from the field across the way when it does have water.

I bought the small, single cup, french press, I like the coffee it makes a lot but I guess I need to save an old coffee can with some water in it to knock off the grounds, then dump it outside once a week or something.

All this "French " talk I had to go to You Tube to figure out what in the world that contraption was all about .I've came to the conclusion it's just another way to skin the same cat so to speak .I suppose with so many methods you could fill an old sock with coffee grounds and dunk it in a pot of hot water like a tea bag and get coffee .Might be a good idea though to run it through the rinse cycle in the washing machine several times first else it might have a little hint of Tide or Downy  in the cuppa . :)

That's funny Al_Smith. We went to Costa Rica and that's pretty much precisely how they made their coffee, though it was just a sock shaped piece of fabric that was filled with grounds, hung over your mug, and hot water poured through. When you are done you toss the grounds and rinse the sock out. It would gain flavor over it's multiple usages until you either really washed it or threw it away. It also made a very tasty coffee.

This (https://www.amazon.com/Edego-Reusable-Traditional-Strainer-Dripper/dp/B07YG11JMV/ref=sr_1_11?crid=3QNWFVUBI3AI8&keywords=coffee+sock&qid=1669743351&sprefix=coffee+sock%2Caps%2C375&sr=8-11) is what they look like.

My requirements for coffee is that it must smell like coffee, and taste like sugar. I've pretty much given up on it, anyway.

There is a deli near here that only has medium and large soup sizes. I used to ask for the small just to tick them off. They didn't like me explaining that medi means middle, and if you only have two sizes, you can't have a middle. I don't think they like my anymore. Two birds, one stone.

I enjoy 2-3 cups from the kureg while I preheat my thermos and make a full pot in the Bunn. No cream no sugar, no point in ruining a perfectly good cup of coffee 😁 most of my mobile jobs are at least an hour drive. So, I have plenty of time to work on the thermos on my way to and from work and I've been known to pour a cup while making a cut. 8' logs give me more coffee for the ride home 🤓

Chicory was a coffee substitute during the war years up here. The stuff grows like tall weeds along the roads, a lavender color flower on it.

I'm wondering if folks used groundnuts that way? It's a rare plant here, never seen it. All I come up with is roasted and ground up for a thickener for soups or added to bread flour.

Yes, it was just taken off the loom last week. A couple days ago I got some 5/8" dowel rod (which looks like tulip poplar) and tacks to mount and hang it. Woven in satin (orange) and sateen (black).

I had a customer a few years ago who was pretty proud of his coffee and insisted he replace what was in my cup with a fresh cup of his. I'm not a coffee snob by any means, there were many nights on graveyard that I would go by the rewind shack on #3 paper machine and get a cup of coffee that had been sitting on the burner for way to long. I have to admit his coffee was exceptional, it was smooth and had a nice flavor. As it turns out, he buys the green coffee beans and roasts them himself. After that I decided to try my hand at roasting coffee beans. I wasn't about to spend $1000 on the roaster he used, instead I bought a ceramic one that goes on the stove top. It's kind of a pain roasting it on the stove (outside), but it is a nice treat. Maybe one day I'll buy a real roaster, I see one that would serve my needs for about $500. Anyone else played with roasting your own beans?

Lots lol all day. Nothing in it. I try to limit myself to one pot. But that seldom happens.

I like coffee. Just some cream in it to cut the acidity, otherwise I get heartburn. My Grandad was known for putting a nip of brandy in his coffee, I never tried that😊

My grandpa drank regular brewed coffee the rest of people could drink, but he stirred in two heaping teaspoons of Folgers crystals.  I was two and drank the same coffee, but mine was 7/8th milk and a splash of coffee.  my dad drank it black with two heaping teaspoons of sugar.

My family has bad hearts. The doctors keep telling us coffee can be bad. Cut back. Got dad on decaf. After two cups. Gramps was 84 had one heart attack and drank only coffee after his one morning cup of water. Hated milk. 🤷‍♂️ Who knows. I say live it.

Two cups of no frills coffee in the morning 1/4 teaspoon sugar and an once of milk. Does it for me. ;D I steer clear of coffee shops. Our cream up here is tainted with carageenan, I wouldn't touch that stuff for anything. Not even canned milk, which is full of it to.

Good old maxwell house Colombian for me. 2-3 20oz cups with a splash of whole milk and half a teaspoon of sugar.  I don't like drip style coffee makers. Been using an electric percolator for 20 years now.

Been drinking coffee, 4-7 times a day for the last 35 years or so. Owned a bakery/coffee shop so it was hard to avoid. No sugar, just a bit of skim milk to take away the sharpness. Haven't had the bakery for near 20 years now but still drink it. Instant coffee, cheapest thing on the shelf, usually no name brand. 1 before breakfast, 1 after. 1 mid morning. 1 after lunch. 1 mid afternoon. 1 after supper. 1 mid evening. Sleep like a baby, other than the twitching and snoring the boss accuses me of. :)

With this frigid weather we are having. I have been drinking 3, 20oz cups in the morning.
Switched to dark roast exclusively to keep the caffeine level down and I like the flavor.

Last year i started drinkin cowboy coffee made in a stainless kettle on the stove by boiling grounds in the water for a good while, letting them settle by the addition of some cold water, and pouring slowly.

Strength wise its like 5 or 6 passes thru an electric filter pot.  I put butter, cream and a pile of spices in it, and thats basically my meal replacement.  I dont eat til noon or so.

Out camping when hunting and fishing it was simply boiled on a Coleman stove in an old coffee tin with snare wire for a handle. And that was done way before my time and during. Grandfather worked in the woods since the 20's and there was no fancy coffee pot, most of the time no mattress to sleep on under a lean to. Certain ways some of these prepper want to be's portray, but a heck of a lot more rustic. Certainly none of the 'Amazon.com' extras, not even army surplus for that matter, just the essentials that simply work and work simply. :D

My normal is one cup per day but since being "quarantined" by this foul weather, I have been sipping a cup at mid afternoon.  It's sorta a "to do" thing while I have nothing to do.   :)

My daughter started working at Atlanta Bread Company (a cafe chain somewhat similar to Panera Bread) last fall. My wife got me a to-go refill cup from there. Now I fill that thing every time I go by. (About $1 a pop). I also sit and write there sometimes as it has WIFI and is a great place to write. I'm known there as "Lydia's dad."

The coffee is about mediochre, but it's cheaper than the gas station, and better coffee. (Yeah, I just dissed gas station coffee, because, yeah).
