Title: Oddities with Forum
Post by: sprucebunny on February 06, 2018, 11:46:38 AM
Jeff I read the 'dust in the air' post..... then the little preview box for it would not go away...followed me down the page like a hungry puppy. Odd, but not an ongoing problem.

What is a small annoyance is when I have reached the forum and from the 'recent unread' have read something and I go up and poke 'unread posts', there is nothing. I have to go to my history and choose the first 'unread posts' page. If I swipe the page away, the little preview box doesn't work but I do have the recent unread.

Thanks for all you do.

Edit: I mean just 'unread'.

This may be related to current location of the alerts icon and box. That will move to the end of the menu eventually. The menu is being worked on to be responsive, so that on smaller devices, it morphs into something more usable and visible. I can't move the alerts location until the menu is worked out. I also think it may be a safari thing.

The 'unread posts' problem started at the change to the new server. I just haven't mentioned it.

It's like there used to be a timer of some sort and if you were here and browsing, it "held" the unread posts list.
Now it would be more aptly named "Posts in the last ten seconds".

Those are held with a cookie.  If you have not deleted ALL of your old forum cookies, you will continuously have issues. That is my first guess on this.  Also, the bookmark thing. No old bookmarks either.  History is a book mark. If you are returning from History, then you are returning from a bookmark. What happens if you click on these links?

The 2 links worked as expected.

My bookmark takes me to recent unread. It is the recent unread at the top of the page that doesn't work right. The history I mentioned would be from about a minute ago every time.

I've already deleted old cookies twice and just redid my bookmark. Tell you later how it worked.

That first link I gave you IS the recent unread.

The first link at the top, is NOT unread posts. It is most recent posts.

QuoteMy bookmark takes me to recent unread.
Did you delete that bookmark with all the rest?  If it was created before Feb 1  that would be the source of the problem.

Sorry. I always mean just 'unread'( second one down). I don't intentionally use the 'recent', at the top.

That should be a cookie issue, and if you are using a bookmark to come to it, you are book marking what it was, not what it is going to be. At least that is my theory.

Huh ???  :D

I see where I got the name of the link wrong. It is called "recent unread" in my history from this morning.

OK.
I'll delete the cookie again. I keep a pretty tight reign on cookies  :)

You need to make sure you have deleted any and all old forum cookies. Any one of them left over form before the change can cause issues.

OK. Thanks. It seems to be working like it used to. I can see unread posts back to 11:30 this morning.
If it acts normal in the morning I'll consider it solved.

As a matter of interest, if cookies aren't listed in my cookie list ( which is kept under 100) where are they ?
