A Surrey man is dead after he was crushed by a tree he was cutting in his backyard.

The mishap occurred about 11:30 a.m. PT Wednesday in the 17700 block of 97th Avenue.

The victim, who was 76, was on a ladder while cutting a branch about 30 cm in diameter when it fell on top of the man and killed him, RCMP spokesman Cpl. Drew Grainger said.

"The examination of the scene shows that this gentleman was operating a chainsaw with little training, trying to cut a branch at a very unusual spot, which would clearly indicate the inexperience," Grainger said.

The man was declared dead at the scene.

No names have been released.

Both incidents are very unfortunate and both could have been easily prevented. Both are a Dang shame!
The first thing that came to mind with the 76 year old that died was how come none of his nephews, children or grandkids wasn't out there helping him?
