Pulling a few trees out of the woods doesn't make me a logger.  I can still understand your excitement about finding good quality trees.  We don't have much walnut around where I live. Yet, I haven't given up on seeing a nice straight veneer walnut someday.  Might have to go to Ohio.

You know your a logger when even when dead broke you walk into a saw shop just to hold the next saw you plan on buying .

Or tear into a piece of iron because you know that s soon as you have some $ your gonna get the parts to put it back together so you can get some wood out .
.
If your not wearing your hard hat when you need it. Well.

donny hochstetler

knowwhat you mean, I got a lead on a dozer job, guy wanted to have a ride  away cleared for a powerline, didnt have any money, so we traded for some timber, did o k,  well then the neighbor came over,  long story short, i'm workin for the third landowner, and have priced the fourth,  with one more to go  8)

When people call because your the only one they trust to log their stumpage.

Work on equipment all night so that you can work the next day.

You know your a logger when your setting in the woods waiting for it to get daylight.

The wife used to ask me [ What are we doing out here in the dark ] I'd calmly look at her an say, waiting for it to get light.
Third generation logger, owner operator, 30 yrs felling experience with pole skidder. I got my neck broke back in 89, left me a quad. The wife kept the job going up to 96.

When you are driving down the road and you get upset after seeing tree service people sawing nice logs into 2 ft lengths.

You know you're a logger when someone ask you what you'd do if you won the lottery, and you do some quick figuring and say; "I think I could get most of my equipment in decent shape, and maybe have enough left to get that new saw, and take the wife out to dinner.

Right off hand, I can't recall ever experiencing that. It sounds nice though.

You know your a logger when:  you have a tool box full of tools and no 9/16 wrench. When you collect the oil leaking out of your machine, strain it and pour it back in the tank. When you think you won't lose as much money this week as you did last week. When the D.O.T. man sees you. When your restroom is a pile of slash. When your the only one to show up for work on monday. When you cannot see yourself doing anything else.

You know your NOT a logger when you go to an expo to ask about used equipment and the big boys laugh at you and walk away.
I have to give credit to CJ logging out of Booneville N.Y. he had a fowarder that I could aford. I got so mad-depressed I left for home by noon.
It's pretty bad when you expected to have 300k cash in your pocket just to get a business to acknowledge your there looking for a piece of equipment.
Sorry for venting.
