I agree, that's a dogwood.   The turners sure do like it for bowls.  That's a pretty flower.

Geeee, I only have a couple on the farm here. :-[  They are not in bloom as yet, at this elevation. :'( :'(  Nice photo, Don P.

Don't worry Frank, it's not blooming up here yet either. We were down near Charlotte, about a zone or zone and a half below us.
There's a story told by my Grandmother about the dogwood. The Cross was dogwood. Its flower was already in the shape of a cross but smooth edged. The holes from the nails and spilled blood were put on every bloom at this time lest we forget. At the old homeplace I can't recall an Easter without the blooms...Easter varies by a month.
Anthracnose is on our regular (florida) dogwoods pretty bad, how are yours fairing Frank? Did you plant or are they native?
We also have a few alternate (pagoda) dogwoods here in the woods. I like the form.
