I've never saw this flower before coming across it yesterday on the side of a logging trail. THe ground is quite rocky. Its a beautiful thing that looks like it should be in a garden. Any clues on what it might be?

I'm on the snapdragon side.  Move over Carla.  :D

Jeff

By the way, that plant is probably 4 foot tall.

I've looked up photos of foxglove and false foxglove and I'm pretty sure this aint that. We have foxglove in our garden at home and its significantly different. If this was in our garden at home, I would certainly say it was a snapdragon.

It is pretty, but James is right...it ain't a sweetgum. ;)  Tim
Never explain, your friends don't need it, and your enemies won't believe you any way.

Sprucegum

I bet it lies on a flight path from the garden to the bird's nest  ;)  You sure have big snapdragons down there.

Tom

There's just something that ain't right about referring to the UP as "Down there".  :-\  :D

OneWithWood

Linnea is with Carla,Tom and Sprucegum.  It is a snapdragon, probably seed dropped by a roc.  :D

I was wondering the same thing.

Maybe random overhead crap?

You might be confusing that story with a certain comic strip wherein a spinach loving sailor had a wimpy friend who had a fondness for burgers  :D

Sinbad (another sailor type) got carried away by a certain large bird.

Carla says it's a Snapdragon

Carla is wise. It's definitely a snap dragon.
