Ive been toying around with more power on my mill.  It currently has a 12 hp kohler and ive ran across a 27hp yanmar.  i was wandering if anybody had any dealings with somethinhg like this.

My 35 comes with a 25HP gas or a 17HP diesel.  As I understand it the difference in the HP ratings is that a gas engine HP is based on being WOT and a diesel is rated when in its in the torque curve, something along those lines, at any rate you end up with a lot more torque with a diesel that is rated at the same HP.  Same thing happens with electric motors as well, we put a 50 HP electric engine on a baler once to re-bale round bales into square bales and the thing would never, and I mean, never bog down.  Put it on a 70 HP diesel tractor and you could plug it up and bog it down if it was over fed.  Guess what I am saying is that your diesel engine will be a monster in comparison to your gas engine, assuming it does not tear apart the mill or break anything from the additional weight.

The concern is the weight on the head. If you've got a 14 hp LT30, I bet it's a mid-'80's machine. The chain lift, gearbox and lift motor are probably all too light for an engine that size.

If that's a 3 cylinder Yanmar it will weight right around 300# or a little more. A fuel sipper with a lot more power than a 27HP gas.   Steve
