Anybody tried a $40 ebay aftermarket coil? My nearby dealer wants $110 for OEM, with that said the saw is 20+ years old and does not owe me a dime! But with the fantastic obamanatation >:( >:( economy every dollar is that much harder to replace!

If you are the original owner the coil has a lifetime warranty

I'm not the orig. owner. Looks like all the ebay coils are used take offs. If my orig worked for all those years, it might be worth a shot. At $110 at the local dealer, I feel like I'm getting XXXked over.

in baileys 2011summer catalog they show a coil for 69.99 might be worth a look

Aftermarket ones have been work or no work when bought new and hassle of shipping back to get a good one. When I have bought USED OEM I have never had one not work. I would buy used oem. JMO  Cost of used $20 $25.

Here is 3 of them complete for $26 plus shipping  http://store.chainsawr.com/products/stihl-044-av-ms-440-chainsaw-ignition-coil-module

coil only use your lead etc. $22  http://store.chainsawr.com/products/stihl-044-av-chainsaw-ignition-coil-head-only
