I have some EXCELLENT, WIDE 6/4 curly red oak.
It's air-dried to about 20-24%. Into the kiln or keep it air drying?
Quality and degrade issues are FAR more important to me than hurrying it along.

You can air dry as long as you want, but almost all defects occur in wood above 30% moisture content. I always air dry my wood to 20-25% before placing in the kiln. You won't have any problems if you use a proper schedule.
