I need to make a ballast for the three point of my tractor, but I also want to be able to hook up and skid logs with it at the same time and I also want to be able to have a receiver hitch on it that I can use to move my trailer around.  The problem I see is that the box will block the view of the hitch.  I'm used to being able to see it and pick up the trailer without getting off the tractor.  Anybody build anything like I'm talking about?

Can you split the box in order to see the hitch between the left and right box?

I saw a picture of one something like that.  That could work.  I'm also thinking of tipping on an angle so that I can see.

Does your tractor have a loader? We have a plate that mounts to forks and we move trailers and hay wagons around with a skid steer from the front. Easy to attach/take off. Just a thought.

sounds like you're trying to duplicate the wallenstein fxp skidding plate

C Elliott, that's something I hadn't thought of.  Maybe I should move trailers around that way.  Won't have to look over my shoulder.  I would still like the hitch on my ballast too, but it would be so important to have it visible.

I'm not sure, J Donovan, but I'll check out the wallenstein.  Thanks.

I just made an appointment to get the tires fluid filled and then I'll see what more I want to do after that.  I have some weights on my current skidder attachment.  Maybe I'll add some more weight and be happy with that.

No idea what you are doing with your tractor, besides skidding logs.
I have a 40 hp tractor and I skid logs and haul rocks and dirt with it. Loaded tires work good. I feel you need the weight low,in the tires and under you. Not 4 feet behind you and up in the air 2 feet.
Wife has a 30 hp tractor that we mow with,no loader. Loaded tires on that too.

Hey Cfarm, I want to do my share of lifting logs with the loader as well.  The weight hanging behind the rear wheels takes some weight off of the front wheels and so reduces stress of big logs.  I don't intend to carry them far though, so I may find I'm happy with just the tires filled and a small amount of weight off the back.
