The Michigan Dept of Agriculture (MDA) today announced that the state has taken steps to protect Hemlock trees from a pest known as Hemlock Wooly Adelgid which has been harming Hemlock forests along the U.S. East Coast.

The state will deny importation of Hemlock trees, logs, and bark into Michigan from states with known infestations of the Adelgid unless first treated by an MDA approved method.

For more information on MDA's quarantine of Hemlock trees, logs, and bark, visit www.mda.state.mi.us. For information on the Hemlock Wooly Adelgid, visit www.fs.fed.us/na/morgantown/fhp/hwa/hwasite.
