Weather is getting nicer here, and we have got a backpack for baby Lara so we went and tried it out on a small walk at a local reserve. Everett Road is a small reserve of lowland forest beside the Manganui Stream near Inglewood. It's an sample of what the whole province (and a lot of NZ) was like before humans arrived in NZ.

Lara's first try in the backpack.. Gee-up

Then we set off up walking track and over a little swing bridge

This is a big Rimu tree growing beside the trail, and some shots looking up at it.

And Lil walking back up the track from the bridge  :)

This is a short video clip looking at another big rimu and then walking back though the vines and undergrowth to the walking track. It's hard terrain to walk through once you get off a trail, and pretty easy to get 'bushed' and temporarily geographically missplaced (lost)

I like the smile on Lara's face when you approach  :)

A couple more video clips.

This is just the main walking trail, much easier than bush bashing off the trail  :D
The background noise is Lara giving em more Gee-up !

That's beautiful country!

The Stream reminds me of North Carolina where it would be a river.

The path in the woods reminds me of my place, except that the ground cover would be a lot of saw palmetto.  It's cool, damp, humid, still and sweat doesn't evaporate.

I was taken back by the Rimu when I took the water taxi and hiked the Abel Tasmen area.  Definitely my favorite NZ tree.  Those pendulant shoots were striking.  I will never forget it.
