New rim sprocket, old chain?

Depends on how badly the chain is worn but generally yes.
old age and treachery will always overcome youth and enthusiasm

Commonly availiable sprocket rims are much cheaper than chain, so I do it without hesitating. It does speed up the wear on the rim though.

With a spur, I likely would think a bit differently - but I usually stay away from those...

 I wouldn't think twice, i won't hurt the rim sprocket 8)
Third generation logger, owner operator, 30 yrs felling experience with pole skidder. I got my neck broke back in 89, left me a quad. The wife kept the job going up to 96.
