most people down south use deere, cat, prentice, tigercat, and barko are the popular ones. the most common is the wheel feller buncher/grapple skidder combo, with a loader on a trailer with a delimber doing tree-length hardwoos and pine :)

Tree Farmer got it dead on. In my area tigercat wheel bunchers are the most popular. Cat is ruling the roost with new skidder sales because of in house financing and waranty. The Cat skidder is my personal favorite. Tigercat skidders are awesome machines, but seem to always have some sort of electrical problem going on.  There are some variations to set up TF mentioned. Such as track bunchers and the Delimbinator. We also have a fair amount of in woods chipping going on, both clean chip and fuel wood. I sure it carries across the nation, but times are hard around here and the logging companies are dropping like flies.
