Miracle Whip vs. Mayonnaise

It's just sad that so many of the "unknowing" live so far from New Orleans.   :-\

I am very happy to be a long way from New Orleans.  One of the nastiest places that I have ever visited.  Sadly, I had to visit way too many times because of work.  Too much drunken revelry and the filthiest, crime ridden, streets that I have seen.  However, I have had Blue Plate many times, and it is very good.

Miracle whip.  We grew up with it and also called it mayonnaise.  Tatar sauce was miracle whip with relish mixed together.

Food Poisoning Myths
http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/food-poisoning/9-food-poisoning-myths

MYTH: Mayonnaise is often the cause of food-borne illness.

REALITY: Mayonnaise does not cause food poisoning, bacteria do. And bacteria grow best on foods that contain protein and are at temperatures between 40-140 degrees F. Commercially prepared mayonnaise is safe to use. At greater risk for developing bacteria are the foods mayonnaise is commonly mixed with for picnics and potlucks, such as pasta, potatoes, eggs, chicken, or tuna. But even these will be safe if you keep your cooler below 40 degrees F.

Never said I got poisoned by Mayo. Once was from a can of grapefruit juice. CAn't remember what the other was. A condiment of some type. Both times on the rig where jars tend to get left out on the table and opened many times a day. Most of the time a jar gets used up pretty quick, but occasionally one will get a little past the sale date. Not so bad anymore. This was quite some time back. Still hard to forget and give up an old habit.

Worst food poisoning that I ever had was from eating raw oysters on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.  Suspect it was from the horse radish.

If you are eating horseradish, why bother with the oysters? The only thing you are going to taste is horseradish. :D

I did find a Cajun grocer online, so I will give the Blue Plate a go  digin_2
Not sure which came first, but I have chickens and eggs.

I am game to try other stuff too.  Pat bought some Miracle Whip for a taste test.

My thoughts are that having an opinion without actually trying is just that......an opinion.
