I'd bet most of you have not tried an anise dinner roll. They are really delicious as the name says. I suggest you try a half recipe first, then be prepared for a whole one next time. Enjoy-

Delicious Rolls-New Mexico
Grandma Luz
½ cup luke warm water
1 teaspoon sugar
2 packages yeast
#-Dissolve all the above in a medium bowl and set aside for the yeast to work

2 cups hot water
2 teaspoons salt
4 tablespoons Crisco shortening
2 cups sugar
3 eggs beaten
3 tablespoons Anise seeds
10 cups flour

Dissolve shortening in the hot water until melted. After water has cooled some, add salt, sugar and yeast mixture and mix. Add beaten eggs and Anise seeds. Slowly add flour to make soft dough and elastic. Place in a glass or ceramic bowl and put a light coat of shortening. Cover bowl with a cloth and let rise to double in size. Knead for a few minutes and roll out on a floured board. Cut into roll size and place on a greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise again until double in size. Bake at 350 until light brown.

Sorry, I can't help thinking how funny it would be to ask for some of these at the bakery.
