I just got a McCulloch Power Mac 310 chainsaw yesterday, I cleaned it up sharpened the chain, put a new fuel filter in, and checked the carb plus changed a few gaskets in it. I still cant get it to start and stay running for more than 30 seconds, It looked like it had been sitting for a little while as there was a bit of liquid varnish in the carb and more in the gas tank, it came right out of the carb with a piece of tubing on the inlet and outlet tube connections and me blowing some air in the carb with the diaphragm out.Oh and some FRESH 32:1 gas mix in the tank.
Does anyone know why the drive sprocket on this model is made to look like a cross between a spur and a rim? I have the original bar, chain and sprocket on this little thing and they have seen little use, although the last tree this thing was used in was a pine judging by the scent given off when I sharpened the chain. theres even almost ALL of the original paint on the bar, plus a PRO style oregon 91 chain on it. its a 13" bar. What do I do to make it run and STAY running? All advice is greatly appreciated. I asked you guys first because I was only about 3 when these saws were in production, but you guys have the age and knowledge that I dont have on these saws so I ask you to save time and get the right answers. Thanks everyone.
What carb is it?
Walbro WT 52 I think.
The initial adjustments for the idle and high speed is one turn from a lightly seated position.
Do you have fuel and spark at the plug?
I have both in the cylinder. I also have compression. YOu could pull to oyur hearts content and it wouldnt start as it is.
It might be the way you're attempting to start it, defective choke, bad carb.
Could be a bad seal on the crankcase.
Intake manifold leaking.
I just had it running for about 3 minutes. I'm thinking carb rebuild, because I didnt try that yet. Thanks for the suggestions Kevin.
