I get the impression it is butternut.

But I don't do well with working from pics.  Loses some in focus.

I like ArborJake's call, as opposite buds (branching)

My Jonsered and Husky 272 would agree with Ash, hard as it gets! :D

For some reason I had Elm in mind I don't know why after reading the posts and looking again ???

I guess the years of being away from tree's day to day in the field are showing
