Any of you use a PTO chipper/shredder on cedar? Was thinking about buying one and the fellow that Lindy hires to work around the place told her another of his clients just bought one. Said it does fine on hardwood and not worth a DanG on cedar. Just wondered if anyone else had the same issue. I suspect it might be from the stringy barb clogging the blades.

My pto chipper on my Kubota bx25 works just fine on cedar.

I wonder if that chipper has power feed?  If not, I'm betting the bushy limbs don't feed well.

Get power feed btw.  ;D

My friend with the tree service and his big engine vermeer eats cedar no problem.

I wasn't clear... I wonder if the chipper in the Lee's post has power feed?

I have a Woods chipper/shredder and have used it on some cedar.  I have no issues with it.  Makes a really nice mulch.  Chip the larger material, and mulch the finer stuff.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

I need to do something soon. I have 4 mountains of limbs and smaller cedars to chip now and about another 20 acres at least to thin out.

If his bed knife/anvil isn't adjusted properly (the gap is too big) or the knives are dull, that could be the reason your buddy has a difficult time chipping cedar.  It will shred instead of cut. I don't see much cedar but weeping willow presents a problem with my chipper that isn't adjusted and sharp.

It's supposed to be brand new, but that doesn't mean much these days. I have no idea of brand or anything else about it. Just relaying what he told Lindy about it.

I shred cedar branches usually 3" or less in my Bearcat pto chipper/shredder, putting the smaller stuff in the shredder opening, didn't notice any problems.   Makes nice mulch.

My pto chipper on a sub compact tractor  will chip cedar wood just fine up to 4 inches, but the green stuff, if fed too quickly, will clog the thing up. It is a Woodmaxx TM-86h. Needs a little modification to help clear the shute when I chip cedar or green/ wet long needle pine.
