Ok, I've been reading about "bridging".  What IS it?  Will someone explain this to me?  Thanks.

The fire burns a hole in the bottom of the wood piled in the stove, and then doesn't have enough hot coals to get the top of the pile burning. It "bridges" over and doesn't fall to the bottom.
