Cat 525c 2006 transmission trouble main shaft has a bearing that has no race the rollers ride on the shaft it wears into shaft now you have trouble was there any up dates for this problem or you just keep rebuilding them seems to be a lot of these for sale with rebuilt trannys

Do a parts/ numbers enquiry on the problem area. Usually parts numbers on problem areas change - often the online diagrams etc for old models are not updated, so you have to  make a parts enquiry through a dealer back to the parts supplier to see if parts have changed/ new service bulletins etc. Repairers also use their own solutions to problems.

Pa.Logger,  I have built countless numbers of these transmissions.  The failure you describe is the least common of all on the failures I have encountered.   When this happens it usually damages the rear case as well, making the rebuild more expensive.  Usually don't see that failure where the correct transmission oil was used and serviced at recommended levels.   The majority of the failures I see are burned clutch packs that result from operators not kicking the trans into neutral while reving the engine and holding the brake to speed grapple and boom to get a drag.  A simple decluch system would have solved this. Also see torque converter lock up clutch failure which contaminates the system.  When the trans filter light comes oil, the oil is no longer being filtered and is directing contaminates directly into the control valve.
