Today I had a walnut tree to cut down on my property, the tree had a base of about 24 inches or so and looking at it I figured I could get about 3- 6ft pieces out of it. So when I made my notch at the bottom to fell  the tree, it started out a strong but after I got in about 3 inches it got real soft like a major hollow. I stopped what I was doing wrapped the base with a piece of logging chain and continued to cut her down. Well after she fell it had a hollow about 16 inches in diameter. that I figured went thru the log, I cut the base off about 12 inches up and hit solid wood all the way thru, what started out as a not to good day ended great, the third section had a really nice crotch and  it was everything that little 1220 could handle, I ended up with about 10- 27 inch boards that were beautiful from that one section.
