I have no idea what this may be. Unfortunately it has been down and dead for a while so I could not find any leaves. Anybody have any ideas?

possibly quacking Aspen? If so if its on the ground any length of time it rots/gets soft fast. Gene

it is definitely soft and light. I tried burning it for firewood shortly after it came down. Did not produce much heat at all. I thought it was cause it was still green.

Based on the bark and leaves on the ground I would say there is a strong possibility it is big-tooth aspen.

Funny I didn't think we had any aspen in this area?

Who needs a gym if you got a woodpile?

It's either aspen or more likely a smaller branch from a cottonwood poplar.  I'm not too far from you and this area has much more cottonwood compared to the amount of aspen.
