Talked to a lady other day who got my card from a friend at my flea market visit. She seemed like she was a little out there but I agreed to a site visit on the way back from town yesterday. She wanted a bunch of red cedar cut up and had concerns about where I could set up the mill.

My wife and I stopped on the way back from our running around. It was pretty obvious right away she was an old hippy but her companion was a bona fide redneck and former Marine who met us with his pistol on his hip. Both were in late 60's to early 70's. She had a couple of pot belly pigs, sheep, chickens (pets - not for eating), and a miniature donkey that followed us the whole time. They had a Plott hound, several pit bulls, a lab mix and an ankle biter mix. We walked their site and discussed which trees would make boards. The plan was to use the cedar in his new gun room as they built it.

When we were done they opened their barn and showed me their car collection - mostly Porshes. I'd think a conservative estimate would be $2 million+. Their home was older and likely less than the value of one of their cars.

The job won't be big as none of the trees they had were particularly large but it was neat to meet them and heart warming to see the hippies and rednecks getting along so well.

Your story reminded me of the "old hippy gal" (her description, not mine) that I followed through the woods to her stash of Cedar logs.  She was riding in her golf car and I was following behind in an F250 pulling a sawmill wondering how I was going to turn around.  Old hippies are sometime good customers.   :D

Your flea market visit will pay off in many ways and for a long time.   smiley_thumbsup

I always favored the "hippie chicks" ;D , well, some of them.

One good thing about the hippie types as they are pretty in tune with nature and many are okay using wood off their place, especially if it is dying or blowdowns or such.
