Title: Husky Prestique 61 (1980) Vs Husky 562XP
Post by: Mikeinkaty on June 11, 2016, 12:48:35 AM
Thinking about giving my old Husky to my son.

Question is, what Husky saw today is equivalent to my old 61cc Rancher model?
My old Rancher has a metal base.  The 460 Rancher has a plastic base as does the handle I think.   Does the 562XP have a metal base?  In pictures the handle appears to be metal.

Also, they seem to be hanging more junk on the saws today IMO.   Fuel injection, auto fuel mixture control, fancy filters, automatic brakes, etc.   My old husky had none of that and has lasted 36 years!

Confused about all the models!  Ps - I will not betray Husqvarna by getting a different brand.

Oh yeah what about the filters?  The carb on my old saw has never been off the saw.  That says a lot about the silk screen filters the used then.  I have never had to replace the old filter.  I just clean it after each use.

Mike

As I see it, the closest is the 555 - but it is lighter and has more power. Both are in the "semi-pro" category.

The 460 is closest regarding power output, but as noted already, it is a lower quality "homeowner category" saw (clamshell with a plastic case).

The meaning of the "Rancher" designation has been devaluated (just as "farm boss" and "wood boss" have), and no longer means "semi-pro".

555 or Jonsered 2258 is a lot more saw and more user friendly than a 61. The screen filter actually filters less dust than the flock. Good filtration saves bearings in dusty conditions.
555,2258,562,2260 are all pro saws with magnesium case. 562's uses a large mount bar I believe the other three are small mount not sure about the 555. The advantage of small mount is it is a little lighter. The Jonserd's  have a non angled handle bar. IMO, Jonsersds are better looking, I dislike the gray clutch cover but that is not very important.

I have 460 rancher. It is plastic but it seems like a good saw. I use it around the farm and for fire wood. I looked at the 555 but I  couldn't justify spending that much more for the amount of work I was doing. Plus the 555 only came with a 20 inch bar. In the U.S.A. They have a 465rancher with auto tune. I have an old jonsered 52 semi pro. Works great

Add the 560xp and 556 to that list. The 556 is the large mount version of the 555, so far sold only in OZ, that I know.
The 560xp is the original (small mount) saw in the "family" (the 2260 is the red version of the same saw).

Not sure where the OP is from, but last I checked, you can;t get a 560xp in the states.

Jonsered 2260 is a red one.

The 562xp you are talking about it a pro rated saw and more $$$ then the home owner type. I think the occasional use saw in that size range it a 555 or 4something rancher, but not sure, because I only run XP saws.

I can say that I have 3 of the 562xpg's and love them. Light and good power for the size, just a hair less power then a 372xp, but if you can keep the chain sharp they keep up well, and they have the reusable/cleanable air filter that you mentioned. I blast mine with brake clean once a week. I have had my 562's for 3 years and run them almost every day. And so far (knock on wood) I have had 0 issues with them. The autotune is nice and works very well, I was a bit unsure when I first tried one dew to the computer and all, but I when I made my first face cut, I knew I would love it! Went back to my local saw shop/logging supply store and got another one. Now I have 3 of them, and a 390xp for the log landing. Cant say enough good things about the 562.

Thanks Dan.   Knowing the 562XP has a reusable air filter is a deal closer for me!  If paying $300 more gets a saw as dependable as my old 61 then that's what I want.
Back in my younger days I had a bud with a 24" Stihl that liked to run races with me with my Husky and a 20" bar.  He never won!   That's when I started loving the "throaty" roar of my Husqvarna.  Cannot stand a saw with the high pitched squeal.

Mike from OK/TX (I have a place in both states and live about 55% of my time in TX). I would move back to OK but I have my wife in an alzheimers home down here.

I don't get it, all the saws mentioned have a reusable air filter. All these saws are very similar under the hood, except for the Rancher models.

If I was a husky guy I would go with the 562xp or the jonsered 2260 if red is your thing, both are made from the same internal parts.

Also a husky guy here, and most of what I have heard about the new auto tune saws are positive. I would love to have a new 562XP and am anxious to try one, but I will not be expecting it to last as long and be as trouble free as say my old 266SE, just more stuff to go wrong, than the simple saws before the epa got involved with the manufacturing process. I would expect it to be more efficient, and more comfortable to use.

Mostly yes, the differences I know of is the crank, oiler, oiler gear, clutch cover, bar mount, air filter and air filter cover between the 560xp and 562xp. The 2260 is the 560 with different handlebar, colors and the shape of some plastic covers.

.....

Just be aware that there is a much larger difference between a 555 and a "4something rancher" than there is between a 555 and a 562xp.

The 555 is a 560xp with detuned performance, so it is a pro quality saw.
