I have found that on large logs and long logs to but the butt to the front.  That way if you hang up it will not be 3/4 ways through the log.  Since you split it I would qsaw the thing to get any good rays.  Qsawn lumber moves well as does wide boards.  If your wide boards cup badly or split then rip them down smaller.  My mill says 36 inches but I have shoved 42 through it by cutting into the bark so that it would sit down on the bed rails.   Just keep chewing you will get it.

Good on ya Arky

Quarter saw that puppy.

Anyone who cuts oak crown ourt to to next on the mill bed.

Quarter is the only way to cut oak and there is less and less of it in the world so lets do it right and not waist it.
If its too hard to quarter properly call in a swing blader and he'll do it properly. 60% quartered is about right.
