I don't know whether this is news, but I thought this was interesting. Genetically modifying food plants has been a controversial topic with many, but when genetic modifications result in the resurrection of a species, kudos to science. Adding a bread mold gene to American chestnut results in blight resistance without extensive cross breeding.  Amazing. Mods please move if this is the wrong forum.

Awesome. Would be great to reinstate that tree...
87 acres abandoned northern Maine farm and forest to reclaim. 20 acres in fields, 55 acre woodlot: maple, spruce, cedar and mixed. Deer, bear, moose, fox, mink, snowshoe and lynx. So far: a 1950 Fergie TO-20, hand tools, and a forge. (And a husband!)
