Lurking in the Trees

Is a documentary on PBS about the threat of the Asian Long Horned beetle on maple trees in New England.

It aired last night on Maine PBS when this forester was counting sheep in his sleep. My mother told me about it this morning.

Does this affect any other species?

Yes it can affect some other tree species. A short list is available here.

The only good news is that many of the states, provinces and federal government agencies are now actively monitoring for this beetle and others. The bad news is that they are looking for the Brown spruce longhorn beetle and the Emerald ash borer that also have established populations. Invasive species recieve significant funding here in eastern canada.
