48” 12 tooth blade

Does anybody know what a 48" 12 tooth blade would be used for in northwestern Canada?

I was thinking the low horsepower as well, but that would be ridiculously slow and almost pointless wouldn't it?
I guess you could saw bigger wood with less power

That could be it, I run 15 teeth of 30 on a 46" low hp setup, it would still cut circles around a band. Slow is relative. The swingblades run 5 teeth on a 24"

Mobile Dimension runs 6 teeth on a 30" blade.

We run a 30 tooth 42" blade. It cuts really well. Dropping down to 12 teeth would be quite a difference. I'm not looking at putting that blade on our mill, but I thought a guy might use it for horse trading

In times past there were many saw builders and they would make saw to fit your operation. Today there are very few flavors when it comes to saws, you buy what they make or go without, and you consider yourself lucky to just find the proper bits and shanks. Most likely that disc with few bits was made for a lightly powered mill, today you would put on a larger engine. Perhaps it was for a water powered mill and that's all it would handle. Frank C.

All I've ever seen were big blades on small hardwood mills .However from pictures of giant bandsaws on the west coast the teeth were huge and large too for that matter .
I once came up back of a semi trailer full of big bands heading west on interstate 70 .Must have been 40-50 all coiled up .

Payne will make just about any round saw imaginable. Besides 2 mill saws , they did a 'peg' tooth cut off for my old slab wood saw. The oldest saw in my collection is a 52" 4 1/2 style 30 tooth off a water powered saw mill some where in N.H. This 48" in question is certainly odd.

It could have been from a water mill or something. They aren't even round. They have flats on the diameter between the teeth. I'll see if I can get a picture
