Hey all,

Looking at my locally available options for peg material has lead me to Oak or Chinkapin.  Both would be slabbed up and then I'd rip into 1" strips, further ripping into octagons.

Anyone ever use Chinkapin for pegs?

I'd pick oak any day over chinquapin.  Chinquapin is not as strong

I'm not familiar with chinquapin, but oak makes good pegs. White is better for an open frame like a barn because the powder post beetles like the red.

I can't believe there is that much Chinkapin, it is related to chestnut, right?

As information, there are different Chinquapins;  LINK
