Up until yesterday (Jan 4th) the weather was pretty mild
for central Illinois and even though I had kinda hung up
the sawing till spring (I'm not as hardy as Mark M)
I got a call the afternoon of Dec 31st from a neighbor down the road three miles who had four logs in his yard that he wanted sawed for halves on the lumber.   The nice thing about being on vacation is doing whatever you want whenever you want so I thought what the heck.  Sawing is a lot more fun than sitting around watching football games. So I took my tractor, trailer and pickup down the road, picked up the logs
on the 31st sawed part of one till it got dark and then
we reconvened at 8 AM on the 1st to finish the job.
Two of the logs were ash and the other two hickory.
One of the two ash logs was absolutely perfect. Not a single
knot.  It was the prettiest ash that I have ever seen.
(Not that I have seen a lot but it was still pretty anyway).
I sure had a lot more fun sawing than I did watching football games.   :)
Now that we have a bunch of snow, I will have to wait
until Mark or Gus stop by to saw.  ;D

That's what is so good about retirement, Perry.  I get to do what I want to anytime.  You're right, sawing is more fun than most anything else one does in leisure hours.  It's probably difficult for a non-sawyer to understand.  Isn't that what is called a "busman's holiday"?

Sounds like a lot more fun than me watching football.  It seems that which ever team I want to win ends up losing.  You see, I used to live near Buffalo NY (nuff said) and now I live in NJ - and you know how bad the Jets and the Giants have done.  It seems the ole curse is still active.

So, how did I end up here anyway?

Tom,
Golf and Fishing are right up there too although
I have more bad days golfing and fishing than I do sawing. :D
About the only way to get a bad day sawing is to hit some
metal.  :(
With sawing, I almost always come home with boards,
now with fishing I frequently come home without fish.
With golfing,  I usually lose balls etc.   One time
I even lost a club.  There was a club stuck in a tree on
the tee of a par three.   The group ahead of us tried to knock
it out and got another club stuck.  I knocked that club
down with mine and kept trying to get the first one.
Eventually I got mine stuck real good laying across two
forks in the tree.  I came back later in the day to try and climb
the tree but cut across a home owner's property to try
and get to the far end of the golf course and ended up
getting chased off by an angry "Greek" lady.  I later
found out that she was the sister of the real estate agent
that my father-in-law worked for.  She didn't know any
english but I could sure tell she was pithed.

Perry,

You just seem to have a knack for getting run off by irate women. :D :D

Couldn't believe how that daycare teacher was yelling at you right in front of all those little kiddies :o :o    What's so awful about crashing an easter egg hunt? ;)
milking and logging and sawing and milking

Noble,
I thought we got run off by a giant bunny?
I must be getting old and my memory slipping.   :D

Hmmm....I need some lessons, I guess.  I hit a fence staple and two pieces of "bob" wire today and still had a good day sawing.  8)
I eat a high-fiber diet.  Lots of sawdust!
