Log Truck Mishap in Errol Woods Claims Life of Concord, Vt., Man

A Concord, Vt., man was killed in a tractor-trailer accident that occurred on Millsfield Pond Road in Errol late Monday afternoon.

N.H. State Police reported that Brian Young, 42, was killed while placing chains on a tractor-trailer. The scene was about a tenth of a mile west of the intersection with Route 16, just north of the Errol-Cambridge town line.

The report states that a log truck owned by Kelley Trucking of Milan and driven by Mike Doucette, 24, of Milan, was hauling a piece of logging equipment. He had stopped on Millsfield Pond Road to put tire chains on the tractor in preparation for a two-mile trip into the woods.

Mr. Young, the operator of the logging equipment, assisted in putting chains on the tires. Mr. Doucette, believing that Mr. Young was clear, began to drive forward and ran over him. Mr. Young received serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

N.H. Fish and Game Conservation Officers were patrolling the area on snowmobile and were the first to arrive at the scene. Errol Rescue also responded for medical assistance, along with the N.H. Medical Examiner's office. The investigation is being conducted by N.H. State Police Troop F and Troop G.

So sad and completely preventable. The driver should have made DanG sure he knew where his partner was, that is straight carelessness.

It is hard to understand how some accidents happen, but they seem to for no good reason. He was working up north in Erroll but he and his young family lived in the next town to us. Makes it sadder. Prayers to his family.

clww

Very sad and very preventable judging by the article.

Agree
Getting in the truck and not seeing his partner in a rearview mirror was unfortunate. What a horrible thing to have to live with.
Maybe he didn't know that putting chains on duals requires crawling and reaching in, under, and around the big tires. But he should have known.  And then, maybe he was following instructions and doing what he was told. Meanwhile the guy on the ground slipped or couldn't get out of the way.
Very sad to think about.
