Anyone been watching this guy? Over a million $$$ in 13 days.

The First 70 years of childhood is always the hardest.

Chuck White

I've been watching it all while he's been on there, I knew he would go over the million last night, and as luck would have it, something came up and I needed to leave the house and I missed it!   ::)

Yes, the guy is phenomenal.  He's especially fun to watch because he isn't a jerk like some of the other big winners have been.  I expect he will quickly pass Ken Jennings.

Helps to be a grambling too.
It's kinda too bad to have a person like that winning. The average contestant don't stand a chance with him.

He's a human encyclopedia/Wikipedia!
His game plan of starting at the bottom and his betting schemes are pretty different.
I feel bad for the other 2 contestants.
Guy like this sure burns through their prize money budget.
It's kind of fitting that he's drawing all those eyeballs to the show in what could be Alex Trebek's last season, following his announcement of stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Good way for Trebek to go out, at the height of the show's popularity.

I have watched him several times and he is very impressive. Yes, he starts at the bottom and moves quickly so they clear the board and don't run out to taime BS'ing and leave money on the table. He is a trivia genius IMHO. I always got annoyed when they were advised of a 1 minute warning and the contestant would pick the $200 question instead of the $1,000 one. Never made sense to me. I would not want to be playing against him. I predict he will be the new contest overall champion.

Speaking of Jeopardy, I've often wondered "what's with all the people milling around the contestants during Final Jeopardy"?

Anybody know?

Lucky to see him from the start. Hes making that show a mint, and what a great way for Alex to approch the close of his run as host.

I believe they're getting the set ready for Final Jeopardy.  They have to put up the screens so there isn't cheating.  They have to also use pens instead of clickers.

Here's the real Jeopardy champ:

Can you imagine if you're finally selected to go on Jeopardy! and you have to go up against that guy? He sure is racking up cash in a hurry. It's fun to watch in a 'How much will he make tonight?' kinda way, but there isn't any competition.

If it had been a really tough answer that might have let the lady win.  As it was, pretty easy to figure out.  That is how I figure he will get beat is when the answer is too hard and they miss the final answer.

With right at $54,000 in winnings/score last night the number 2 guy would have beat any normal contestant. I don't guess there is a contest limit to what the guy can win.

James was on 2 other game shows before Jeopardy.  The first one was the on called the Chase.  It was the American version of a British show.  It pitted a team of contestants against a trivia expert.  They get to a final round against the expert.  The team is asked questions in an allotted time.  They then bring in the expert to answer the same questions.  If the team beats the expert, they win.  Most times, those teams lose.  The team beat the expert 26-9, with James answering 19 of the questions.

James also has a BS in mathematics.

She lost.  She didn't know the final Jeopardy question.  The other two did.

Saw a blurb about how much James should get out of his $2.46 million.  Between the Fed and California, its estimated he'll get $1.38 million.  Although he's a resident of NV, the show was filmed in California, and their tax rate at that level is 12%.  But, since the earnings was over $1 million, they tack on another 1%.

After falling down the rabbit hole from Jeff link I found this:

During her second game, Boettcher bet all she had on a Daily Double clue, prompting Trebek to say, "Influenced by James, are we?" (Holzhauer made money at such a rapid pace partly because of his large bets.)

Fans noticed Boettcher's quizzical reaction.

Boettcher said in an email on Thursday that she reacted that way because, at that moment, she had seen Holzhauer play only one game — the one he lost to her — and in that game he made relatively modest bets.

Boettcher said she knew to bet high from her years watching the show — not from watching Holzhauer in particular.

I figured they would find some way to bring James back on the show. He's a moneymaker for them.

After seeing him play, most other games just aren't as interesting. I find myself saying "bet more!" On a daily double. Or really noticing when they go top down in every category, and sometimes leave high $$$ questions on the board. Hesitating on the next questions.

It should be a great show for sure, will be interesting to see how the three stack up.

Jeopardy starts at 7 here.  It came on and was a continuation of Friday's game.  We were like, what's up with this?  Don't have a TV Guide so we figured our local station was messing with us.  Turns out the special edition runs from 8 to 9 (here).  So caught it last night.  Pretty entertaining!  The banter between them is funny - Ken doing an "all in" checking if it was copywrited with James :D  And then saying "It works!"

Normal Jeopardy is on CBS here but GOAT is on ABC.

It's becoming obvious why Ken is the all time "number of games" winner.  He seems more up on trivia.  James knows his stuff but is more of a strategist .  He seems to be a step behind.
