As I walked out the door of my local Stihl dealer with my new MS361, his son said to me "I'm sorry to say thats the last one we'll ever sell". It took me along time to decide on a new saw and since I own 2 MS260's I worried that the 361 might not be a big enough step up in power. I hope it will be.

day and night my friend.  I've got them bigger and I've got them smaller but the 361 and 036 are the workhorses around my farm.  You should be very happy with the last one, maybe even wish you bought 2.

Reminds me of the time I was withdrawing cash from a bank to take to another to invest. They handed me a $1000 bill and said that's the last time you'll see a $1000 CDN, they are being taken out of circulation. I said it will do just fine where I'm putting it.

Good for a chuckle. The teller almost scolded me. Some of them think they're your mother or something.  :D

You should be very happy with the 361, I got one not long ago and its a very good saw.  Lots of power, light, runs great, youll be very happy.

I have four 026s, and two 361s, and the 361 is a large step up. I also have an 044, and I rarely need/use it with the 361s around. The 361 has way better AV than the 360 or the 044. Only issue is cold starting; do not use the decomp when cold starting and you should be able to start it fine. Nice catch, that last 361. I still get calls from people lookng for them, and I cannot buy them new around here any more. Come to think of it, I do not see any used ones any more either. They are gone.

They will have to pry my 361s from my cold dead hands...  they are by far my favorite saws, and a good compliment to an 026.

By the way, the 260 is going away pretty soon as well. The 261 is out in Germany now, so they will be here soon. The 261 looks to be better replacement than the 362 is though (more power, and not a lot more weight).

The MS361 is really hard to beat in the 60cc class, at least the German made ones!   ;)

I have had a MS362 for about two months now-- I do not have any complaints.  I never worked a 361 so I can't do any direct comparisons.  The MS362 has plenty of power for a 20" bar.  I can't imagine why anyone would want a bigger, heavier saw unless you have a need for a longer-than-20" bar.
