I got this John Deere 23 off evilbay  :o and it came with a 20" bar w/3/8" chain.  Also picked up a new Windsor speed tip 24" x .404 for peanuts.

Question is:  Will the Deere/Remy pull a 24 w/.404 or is it a problem?

Presently have the Deere all apart to fix the oiler check valve and restore the finish.  (Shame on DuPont!  :embarassed: )

Welcome aboard, grab a coffee and pull up a stump. Remington did offer a 23"?? bar but with 3/8 chain, .404 would really tax it (if you could find a sprocket). If it were mine I would keep it for occasional use and find an 088 to run the more aggressive chain.

The Deere/Remy has a rim drive drum.  So, it's easy to swap sprockets.

How about a 28" x 3/8" pitch?  My Homie XL-925 has a 24".

But, I don't cut wood and I don't burn wood.  I just like to rebuild old magnesium chainsaws.  Mostly Remingtons.  ;D
