with the jig saw i bought.  Have any of you heard of a "Maud Drill"?  metal working, I think.

The handle is a ratchet, the thing at the bottom is threaded and when the ratchet works, pushes a square shanked metal drill bit into what ever is being drilled.  The base has a point that I think slips over a piece of pipe to extend to put pressure on the bit.  all this is a guess.  It came from a friend who says it was in his grandfathers shop, a boiler maker.
