I'm new to the forum here and prefer spending my time here rather than other forums.
The members here seem to be more civil and that's a big plus in my book.

Anyway,  I have a couple questions about bar oiling systems.

1) When did the manufacturers change from the crank driven to clutch driven systems (what year approx) ?
2) Did all the manufacturers make the change about the same time or did some continue to use the crank driven system for years to come?  If any stayed with the crank driven system, who were they?
3) Are they both equally reliable?

Thanks a lot !

They are equally reliable, sprocket driven is simpler and cheaper. Pulling the worm to access the seal or split the case can be a problem on some models without the proper tools.

Thanks !  Any idea of when the change to sproket/clutch driven took place ?

I believe that the change started in the mid seventieth with Husqvarna 182, and Stihl 028 a few years later. Many saws kept the crank driven pump until a few years ago.

Misspelled the saw name. Of course it was the Husqvarna 162, not 182. Sorry!
