I am new here so please excuse this basic question.  Is there a formula that would tell me how many board feet of lumber are in a given log?

Thank you,
Glenn

Go to the left side of the page, and scroll down to the bottom...open up the red tool box.  Several useful things in it.  or buy a log scale.  Banjo

Never explain, your friends don't need it, and your enemies won't believe you any way.

Welcome to the Forestry Forum.

As Banjo pointed out, the red tool box will give the volume in bd.ft of a log, given the small end diam. and the length.

Also can get an approximate weight for whatever species you have of interest.
