Hello,

Does anyone know the requirements to get a job as a ranger with the DNR?

Much thanks,
Brian

Jeff

Brian,

I can give you a number to call when I get home to a gal that maybe can help with info, I will also send this thread to her and see if I can get some info before I get back to Michigan.

Do you mean a Conservation Officer position or Fire Officer or State Park Ranger?  Your best bet would be to go to the Michigan Civil Service Web Site.  Run a Google search I don't have the link handy.  The site will have the requirements.

Hello.  I'm Jeff's "gal" friend from the DNR.  I hope this info helps.

The website for Michigan Civil Service is www.michigan.gov/mdcs . You can go there to check out requirements for any state jobs.

If you are interested in becoming a Conservation Officer, you can go here direct:
http://www.michigan.gov/mdcs/1,1607,7-147-6876_8241-25286--,00.html#Officers

You have to take a Civil Service Exam.  Many new recruits have told me that the list is so long that often times, only folks who have scores of 99 or higher are considered (I don't know if that's true or not).  I believe you can re-take the test every six months.

Minimum requirements include a High School diploma or GED, must pass a background check, must be 21 years of age (to carry weapon), and must be a resident of the state by the time your training is over.  I can tell you that a large majority of our recruits have some type of law enforcement degree (at least an Associates, often times a Bachelor).

Good luck, Ada.

Hey Corley5,

I work at the Rosco office for Forest, Mineral, Fire Mgt Division, and cover the whole state.  I tried to answer sooner, but my computer was acting strange whenever I hit "reply."

Did you come to the picnic on August 9th?  If so, we met there.
