Is it just my dealer. OEM spark module is way higher than after market module, or should I stay away from aftermarket module. Goes on an older Stihl 029. Thanks.

That is normal. If the aftermarket is cheap enough it might be worth a try. It is easy to change if it doesn't.

Seems to me I have heard that some older Stihl saws had a lifetime warranty on electronic ignition. May be worth looking into?

Most other stihl coils will work fine, you might have to adjust the spark plug wire length, or kill switch.

There is a million or 2 of dead stihls (029 039....) that use a compatible coil.

Why pay >100$ for a coil,  on a 200$ saw?

I think you need paperwork if you expect to honor the coil warranty.  It's not like the old Thompson Center Arms (before S +W jerks)

I've bought used OEM ones off ebay, and I believe they are all still working.  Sometimes people part out a saw when a cylinder gets scored, or the carb clogs up.
