Mahogany Prices

I live in Alaska and my father in law is in need of some Mahogany.  Anyone out there have any idea what it should run (ball park figure) per board foot?  Say 2 x 6?

I saw a guy charging about $8.50/bf for that stuff here in PA.  That sounds a little stiff, but if you're only needing a few pieces, its probably a fair price.  Your prices would be higher due to freight.

A friend of mine was up in Alaska a good number of years ago.  He walked into a hardware store and they had a 1x6x8' piece of red oak.  Price tag said $60.  When we sawed a board like that, we were getting less than $6.  Lots of middlemen.   ;)

In my area, pattern shops use mahogany on a pretty consistent basis.  They might use ponderosa pine in your area.  But, you could check to see if they are buying any and go on their coattails.   
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
