...........My only problem is ............ But im happy.  ;) You can never give up ya know.

Most of my spacing might be around 10 foot. I will keep an eye on it. I have thinned out alot of stands. So i am going to try and plant in a way that will make it easiest for logging in the future

You are doing a lot Semo. Keep up the drive and being happy. That is most important for you and your family.
Had a grand daughter (now 15) born with both feet like that. Thanks to some great Drs. at a Portland Shriner's childrens hospital, she now is doing ok.

Well that's quite a rough history Semo. One never knows, from 1500 miles away. ;)

You'll get them trees in eventually.  ;D

Thanks all. There are some pitchure of a 18 year old loblolly stand i cut a few years ago in my gallery. It was 3 years ago. I didnt get any pitchures of the thinning i did. But you can see what happens to a loblolly stand that gets hit with a ice storm. This was while i was cutting it. I had to just leave the job. The landowner was going to waite and see what to do. It was in the CRP program.

What type are some of the herbicides i can use to spray? Without killing the trees? I did have a list and seem to of lost it figures.

I named them in Reply #15.  Arsenal and Escort.  Arsenal more for grass and Escort for woody growth.  A mixture gets everything.

On edit:  I did not intend for the above to sound sharp.  Sorry.

Swampdonkey the problem I have with bending over is that I have such a large head that it is difficult to stand back up. ;D

I've tried some tree planting contracts and must admit it is one of the last things I will ever do again with the intention of making a paycheck.  Very, very hard work for minimal pay.   I do admit though that it is really neat to look at your work several years later and see a growing forest.  Hats off to anyone who does this type of work on a regular basis.

Cheers

A lot of tree planters head out west to Alberta and BC to plant where the pay scale is much higher. When they look at what Irving pays to plant they just laugh.

All of our tree planters are from "South if the Border".  They are all closer to the ground to begin with so maybe bending over is not too difficult.

No worries Magicman sorry about that you are the teacher i am the student. I guess i just missed that on #15. Well i got a few more in the ground today around 300 or so i hope to get them all done tomarow. The ground is starting to harden up makeing it pretty hard to get the bar in the ground. I have found a few rocks also that bar dont go thru them.

What ever those guys get paid would never be enough for me to do it. But i am starting to get my feal for it good now. The field is 25 acres and I plan on doing it all. A little each year hopefully.

Maybe i need to go to the resturant in town and see if any of them boys want to do some planting next year.  :D

Magicman

The 330 that I planted this year ended my yearly planting.  I finally ran out of open spaces and I am not sad.   smiley_thumbsup

I liked planting trees in the spring when younger, now I would lose money if I tried that.  :D

Well i planted around ten trees today. Bent over to pick up one sharp pain went thru my back. I bairly can stand up straight. Looks like its going to be a few days till i get back at it. So i ended up putting the trees in a walmart sacks and stuck them in the freezer in the house. i wonder what my wife is going to say when she looks at all the pine needles in there. smiley_furious At least it makes the frig smell nice and piney. Also i cleaned it out to made plenty of room.

beenthere

Sorry to hear that semo.... now I might have stored them in the frig, but don't think I'd try keeping them in the freezer.  ::)

So you ate all the ice cream to make room for the trees?   ;D

I thought they  would go dormant in an hour or so. I know just hopeful wishing.  ;)

customsawyer

You would be a little bit better off if you was to take the trees and hill them. This would mean digging a small ditch, lay the trees in there, then cover them up with dirt.
