Looking out the kitchen window persimmons seem late this year. This winter hardy variety was developed by prof.Meader Uof NH.Its loaded every year with tasty fruit. But as always no persimmon before its time when they look the color of pumpkins and fall from the tree ,sweet and delish. Its the most dependable fruit tree I have, critters don't bother them and the fruit ripens over a long time. The possums will eat mine, but only after they have fallen to the ground or on my deck.  The squirrels and the coons don't mess with them.

I have seen a good many persimmon trees full of fruit.  Our coons must be different, they usually go up the tree for the fruit before it hits the ground.

Got a big tree across the road. It's loaded with fruit and it's starting to turn. We always figured persimons weren't fit to eat until the first frost. One favorite trick was to entice a city cousin to bite into a green persimon.  :-X

Bummer, the whole top of my persimmon tree, heavy with fruit broke off, lost DanG near half the tree.My only complaint with the persimmon is its brittle wood.Persimmons were just starting to ripen too. Frank C.

Deer and coons eat them here and "deposit" the seeds everywhere.  I'm constantly doing "Hack n Squirt" on persimmon, pecan, as well as honey locust..... >:(
