Look into leasing a new one.  All the manufacturers have programs.  Turn it in at the end of the lease and get another one.  If you don't like the brand you leased you're only stuck with it a couple years.  No worries about rust etc.
The financing costs and final payments on a slightly used truck weren't much different than a new lease and they don't come with the new truck warranty.  Doesn't cost a dime to stop and talk to a salesman.

Never leased one. I've heard horror stories about running over the alloted miles and having to pay a fortune, and saw people that leave them parked in a driveway for fear of going over. Currently Tammy puts on a lot of miles. Plus we want to be able to travel a bit while the vehicle is newer after she retires to meet forum members.

Sheila leased for a while when we lived in town.It worked great till we move 30 miles from her work.
She went over the mileage on a Chevy avalanche by 5,000.
She kept it up like new.
Passed it in it went to auction. It sold for more and she only had to pay $50 in over mileage fees😊

Travel south for the winter. Best way to avoid that whole snow/salt silliness. Snow bird migration usually starts in about a month.

Chrysler has 8, 10, 12, 15, and 18,000 miles per year plans.  $.25 per mile if you go over.

Currently Tammy is driving 180 miles a day 5 days a week. She is chasing her retirement that is why she is now driving in evart. its 45 miles one way. She leaves here at 4:45 and is done driving at 8:00 its way to long to sit around to drive at 2:30 so she has to come home. Then leaves again by 1:30 and is home around 5:30

I'm a Ford guy and I have a 2017 F350.  I have to recommend the new Fords with aluminum body.  It won't rust.  I can't speak for any half ton truck since I haven't had one since 2002.  Whatever you get, enjoy.
gas or diesel
It's diesel.  I've had a 7.3, a 6.4 and now this 6.7.  I skipped over the 6.0.

What kind of mileage are you getting?  My 2001 F350 Crew cab long bed 4x4 7.3 PSD 6 spd manual  has about 175k and gets 15 towing the sawmill  and 18-20 without, highway.
I get about 18 empty on the highway.  I get about 10 pulling my 36' fifth wheel and about 14 pulling my 18' flatbed.  I remember getting about 21 on the highway with my 2002 f250 with 7.3.  That was a great motor, but nowhere near the power of this 6.7.  250 hp versus 440.

2013 Eco Boost F150 here, 70,000 miles. Not so much as a hiccup so far, 17-19 mpg. Pulls great, lots of power but the mileage goes in the toilet when turbos are running. Overall very satisfied. One thing maybe they have changed, you cant put a snow plow on mine.
There are snowplow options available now.  One is called Sno-way.
I drove one of these to Maine from Florida for a friend and he was able to find a way also.
