First, I want to apologize as I know the is a wealth of knowledge on this subject. I just can't make up my mind. I'm sitting at 36° lat and from what I read if I go with a roof on my current solar kiln build with the same pitch it will give me the most direct sunlight during the summer months but will hinder me in the winter months. How much will it hurt me in the summer months if I use the 10° rule and just go with a 46° pitch (most likely a 45°)? I'd like to dry year round , but I'd also like to make sure I can get the kiln hot enough to kill all the critters. Am I overthinking this or is a 36° degree pitch going to perform better than the 45° will?

Ok, let me preface this by saying I know nothing about this. However, after having consulted with my good friend Google, I see that for optimum solar panel gain the panels should be at ~61° in winter, ~47° in summer, and 34° spring and fall. Average all of those and you get roughly 48°. I think 45° would be just fine for our latitude.

I'm at about the same lattitude and 45 degrees works fine for me.
