mesquite buckeye

And maybe put a tapered board underneath to compensate for log taper.
Manage 80 acre tree farm in central Missouri and Mesquite timber and about a gozillion saguaros in Arizona.

Cedarman

Take a 2x6 with the 2" part being the width of the rail.  Cut a V notch in the 2x and bolt a couple small boards to the base so the 2x6 will sit on the cross rail and not fall off.  Make 2 of these.  Now you can place the pole in the V notches.  If you need height adjustment at one end or the other, place shims under the appropriate 2x6.
Have a helper push down on the far end of the log holding it in the V.  As you saw down the log, place your hand on the log with down pressure and have the helper get out of the way.  You can quickly saw logs in half this way.  We have done many hundreds without incident.
I am in the pink when sawing cedar.
