Hi guys
block  thinning at the moment. has. a strong   wind in the area. some rows  follow the main wind flow is it best. to be. close to right angle to the wind  flow or  to have  clear open rows  following the wind
cheers

It would be best to not have the rows follow the wind direction but that is a minor consideration and the wind changes; you'll never thin a plantation that doesn't see high wind gusts down the rows at some point.

It is far more important that the stand is thinned at the correct time or density, that the first thinning doesn't take too much and that the edges are left a little bit denser than the rest of the stand. If those three things are done correctly then it is very rare to have catastrophic windthrow that can be blamed on poor management. Granted, in these parts you can still get a tornado and then it doesn't matter how well you have thinned the plantation.

cheers for the reply
keeping about 4 rows on outer  tight
had to change plans  a bit as too tight for gear to work on 1 in 5   so now taking out  2 rows and leaving 7 rows  with the aim of coming back in 4-6 years to open up  the 7 rows   just rely tossing out the crap
time wise  a bit late  so taller skinny trees   leading to a slower open up to lower. risk  of wind blow
