WB, you are a big help.  I think going to a 3 skip to fix that wobble would be a big help.  I can tell with the 5 skip that those cutters just smack into the log, you can hear it and feel it.

I will make a steel crossbar that can be dropped in to replace one 2X6 deck board, but the top will be at the same height as the frame.  I can then set it anywhere on the mill and use it with the old manual dogs for the times I need to support a short log, otherwise it will not be installed.
